Funny thing is that pick shifted the draft boards.
WIZARDS was deciding between Stix whom they watched closely at Maryland and Deni...now Deni gone.
The pick for the Suns was Kira Lewis before the switch. At no time was Hali on the draft board.
So Fans wanted who they wanted but the Suns came...
The source is CP3 was on the team and none of the draft picks while he was there were guards.
And even now James Jones with no CP3 or Hali like in sight Jones still don't want a ponit guard disturbing the all stars he brought in.
Like CP3, to get them they told Jones they running the show. So...
An action which isn't even the norm. The norm is you trade the asset you no longer see value in when you get calls for him starting draft night. For 2 years Jones ignored trade inquiries, so that says he had planned on keeping the pick until boss man said I'm going make you two look incompetent.
CP3 is the reason Haliburton or any rookie guard wasn't chosen. That's the terms he set with Jones to commit.
Now a GM with experience should have known this part was coming
Saying that in the present moment seeing how Booker turns out and how productive he was on his early years... was like huh...so you just don't believe in using rookies and you want vets you don't have to "coach up" or wait for. Ok!
Cuz James literally said if it was him drafting for Booker's class he would not have picked Booker. I don't know how fans can't see this thought process is the problem. Not even Booker...wow!!
But every boss has a boss.
Most bosses prefer not to have to step in but if you have to then you have too.
So there's always a chain of command but there is a time when leaders have to be removed. No one has absolute rule without answering to somebody.
It's certainly a delicate line to walk...
Four years in a row the Suns have been in win now mode. Discarding development and skipping steps..and have been historically embarrassed. It's like you try so hard for that one thing yet each path chosen keeps saying...NOPE.
The Suns karma will continue until it fixes a wrong.
Nobody gets it.
But it's the player right? Never the coach right?
I still can't forget a player scoring 12 in the first quarter and a coach banishing him to the bench for more girth.
But that's what these coaches do. And not too many that don't do it. I think they do it because they think...
Get the timeout. Good come up with a plan.
But you ride a hot Ivey to the end & the timeout is to tell him if you don't have it do this or that. If none of works fine, if he doesn't do what he's told fine (remember my memory is long son). But you don't take him out. At least he could be your...
I mean Monty had a young player who scored 11 points in the first quarter against NO that he banished to the bench after the 1st quarter for more "girth". SUNS was way up at the time.
No matter who the youngish is, Monty gots no patience for them unless you look like the type he wants his...
Quote from another source....
"Detroit was down 6 points with 1 minute to go:
Ivey took the ball to the rim and scored while getting fouled (Detroit down 3)
Boston misses their shot, Ivey takes ball to the corner and makes a clutch 3 tying the game.
Boston misses again giving Detroit the...
