In person that play with Budda providing a nice safe escort to the end zone on the bomb was just brutal.

Budda should never be the deep safety. He's the opposite of a ball hawk. If you can't find a place for him near the LOS than sub him out and let DTD play deep.

This defense would be better if they only used Budda on 1st and 2nd down and let DTD take his 3rd down snaps.

I’m of a mind to get rid of Budda and Jalen. I just don’t see the value for the money invested.

A couple of years back they were my favorite defensive players.

While your rationale may be solid, how does getting rid of two of your three best defensive players make your defense better? You want to get rid of them so Monti can sign more guys like Justin Jones, Bilal Nichols, and SMB?

We should be in the position to start making smart financial decisions regarding the S position but we aren't because our GM can't figure out ho to add talent to support those decisions.

Again, I have zero interest is saving Bidwill money, and I don't think we should get rid of talent when we struggle so much in adding it.

I think this is Buddas last year as a Cardinal and I'm OK with it given his age and Rabbit waiting in the wings.

I don't think having two safeties on top 10 money at their position on one of the worst defenses in the league is sustainable.

If I had to keep one it would be Budda.

It shouldn't be sustainable, but when you don't have talent and don't sign talent, it is. Mostly it depends on which S they want to keep because neither is under contract past 2025. Of course there is a price with all of this, but unless Budda wants a ridiculous deal or the Cardinals feel Jalen is the better system fit, there no reason to not re-sign him. The Cardinals have 118 mil in cap space in 2025. They can give Budda a 3 year deal, extend McBride, and sign multiple top end FAs without Jalen's cap hit of 13.7 mil mattering.

But he's not good. He's completely average safety. In fact I think DTD would be an upgrade.

He's a glaring overpay on a weak defense.

He's allowed 15 receptions on 19 targets and a 142 passer rating and has only 39 tackles compared to Budda's 60.

So then start DTD and use Jalen Thompson as depth. Thompson's contract should not prohibit the team from re-signing Budda Baker if he fits what they are doing. Budda Baker getting an extension should not force the Cardinals to cut Jalen Thompson in 2025. Cutting Thompson opens up like 6.5 mil. Also, neither of those players should prevent the team from starting the two best Ss on the field.

You either trade Jalen, keep him as the starter, or have him as a backup. Cutting him does nothing to benefit this team next year.
