Why this game (Jets) is the most important game of the season

I'm looking so much forward to this game. I'm excited. I'm anxious. I'm nervous.

I think it's the most important game of the year. Why?

1. A win would land the team at 6-4 going on a bye, with the softer part of the schedule coming. The remaining 7 games should realistically provide 4 wins that gives a 10-7 record and a possible playoff spot

2. The Media's perception of this team is changing. In order to maintain this, the team must prove they are at the level they are being talked up to at the moment.

3. The game is between two 2nd tier teams (out of 5 tiers), but with different trajectories. Cardiansl are ascending. Jets are decending.

4. I think most of you would consider me as one of the more positive voices on this board on Monti's rebuild. The state of this team is about 4 games ahead of what even the positive me had expected. The team has added a ton of potential with the many draftpicks and as I said multiple times, some of those will shine, some will fail and some will be decent players. With the numbers of young players starting to contribute more and more, we are seeing this team shape up. Now prove it against a future HOF'er.

I'm not sure it's accurate to say the Jets are descending because we don't really know yet but I would assume adding Adams and Reddick will make them a better team.

Their WR, Wilson, imo, is one of the League's best. And, while Adams isn't young, he and their QB have a great history. Their RB, Hall is also VG as is their top CB, Gardner. Reddick and McDonald are VG pass rushers, Williams at DT is much better than anyone we have, and overall they are built to win, this year. One of these games they are going to put it all together. Just hope it's not, today.

I understand your opinion, because it is based upon the age of their QB, which as we all know is the most important position on the team. IF, and it's a big IF, how would you feel about the Jets if they had held on to Darnold as Rodgers insurance. JMO, but if they beat us they'll make the playoffs and who knows what will follow. If we win (fingers crossed) then everyone will say, "Same old Jets".

Lose this one and it exposes us as playoff pretenders. It won't mean we're hopeless, just that it will become more about next year.

Win this one and it shows we probably have enough chops to split the remaining division games. We'll hang on for dear life to the division lead and end up adding another banner at SFS.

Completely agree on your first point. Realisticly this team will not make a deep playoff run, so the playoffs this season is rather irrelevant compared to the overall long term development of the team.

I agree this is not a championship team, but I think it would mean a lot to these players and coaches to win the division.

And I would love love love for the young coaches and players to get some playoff exposure/experience too.

Wilson, Hall and Gardner are three of the League's best young players. And their DT, Williams, is in his prime. IMO.

Yes winning would keep the road to the playoffs a little wider.
Lose and it may be necessary to beat the Rams and/or the 49ers for a second time.

Either way divisional games will determine our fate. No game is more important than divisional games.

Hard, hard, hard disagree. 5-4 and then missing the playoffs would hurt pretty bad. Realistically needing only 4 more wins out of 8 and not being able to get them would hurt. Also, this team getting into the playoffs would give them so much momentum and mean a lot to the development of the team.

I still dance around on the importance of Div games.. beating your division is only really important because you play each team twice.
But I still remember a few years back when the Raiders went 6-0 in their division and sat home watching the chiefs in the playoffs as division winners. because the Raidahs were 6-10
Because honestly...if you go undefeated in your division how dafuq are you not the division winners?
overall record is more important....you could lose every division game, end the season at 11-6 and take home the banner

See, I don't think getting boatraced would be nearly as big a deal as when we did it the last time in the playoffs. Then, we were a team that had high expectations. Now, we would be the "happy to be there" team that made it against all odds.

Im thinking in terms of validating the guys buying into the system...and in the fact that our QB is an emotional dude.. he got smoked in kliffs system,...we changed it all up.... if he gets smoked in Drews system it may do permanent damage to his psyche.
then we have one of those QB's who just cant win in the playoffs...until they have an epiphany at 40
I would like to avoid that
