He showed early signs of being pretty good.
However their o-line is worse than putrid. In addition that unit has had a lot of injuries.
In addition to that their play calling has been atrocious. They have 2 darn good running backs and have only thrown to Kmet 3-4 times total in the last 3 games.

Yeah, this isn't good:

According to Next Gen Stats, the Houston Texans pressured Caleb Williams 36 times. Williams had 37 pass attempts, was sacked seven times, and scrambled four more times, for a total of 48 dropbacks.

you don't just forget how to football - part of this has to be mental (dealing with personal struggles while watching washington ball out) and part has to be the scenery - but if he's not balancing his game with his run and has a crap o-line... he's going to look like a rookie

Way too early to make that call considering how bad that line is.
the Bears have failed Caleb

the o-line isnt good (granted -- injuries havent helped there). With their 9th overall pick they could have gone OT there. They had DJ Moore, they had signed Keenan Allen. But they went for glitz with Odunze. Heck --they could have traded down and taken an OT.

The talking heads on most networks have pointed out that the Bears have failed their last few QBs that were high draft picks. Usually, their top rookie gets saddled with a coach that gets fired right away and then they are on to their second coach, scheme, etc. by the time their rookie season wraps up. Not a great pattern for success.

Caleb struggled to read defenses in college and is struggling to read defenses in the pros. Caleb held onto the ball too long in college, and is holding onto the ball too long in the NFL.

The biggest concern for Caleb is that he is having the same issues in the pros that he had in college. Either not being coached up, or not responding to coaching.

Way too early to call him a "bust". Literally just four weeks ago he and Daniels were neck and neck in OROY odds and no one was calling him a bust. He has a long way to go, but this current season has jumped the rails at this point. The first mistake was keeping Eberflus. Now they have the worst offensive line in the league. I wouldn't sit him, but you had better start figuring out what that offense can do without getting him annhilated.

The Bears are where QBs go to die. Instead of drafting one of the stud tackles available the Bears selected a WR with the #9 overall pick. Some teams will never learn. You have to protect your most import asset.

the sooner teams realize that a rookie qb cannot be plug and play day 1 their rookie season the better.

these guys need years to develop, its best to have a run game established and some semblance of a max protect to help them begin the process of reading a defense.

The bears just gave him some toys and neglected the oline and run game. Thats a recipe for disaster

The Bears have actually never fired a coach in season.

Their MO is draft a qb, fire the head coach, fire the GM, then the new HC drafts the QB, who is then fired, and a virtuous cycle forever and ever (Packers win 2 Super Bowls)

All I know is the QB who I liked best coming out of the 2024 draft is doing pretty good in Denver.
