Spo had a rare disaster class of coaching tonight.

Heat are up 2 with 1.8 seconds left, allow an inbound lob to tie it, Spo, furious with his team for the defense on the play, calls a time out... the heat have no time outs, technical foul, Pistons hit the FT to go up 1, he tries to sub, they're not allowed to, he thinks they're getting the ball, they're not, it's pistons ball, pistons toss it in, Miami fouls with .1 seconds left. Lose by 2.

Usually they have an assistant coach who keeps track of timeouts and such for the head coach.

The Hawks beat the Celtics on their home court in NBA Cup Group Play, 117-116.

Steph never gets old. Dallas is 4-5.

That was vintage too and I loved the sequence. Klay hit a big three and did the Steph shimmy, and then Steph, who hadn't scored a point in the quarter went on a personal 10-0 run to ice it.

It's pretty crazy either everyone is mediocre or there's a bunch of good teams this year. Dallas is really talented but under 500. Last year it really seemed like only a couple of teams were good enough to win it all, this year it seems like there's 6-8 that if they can stay(or get in OKC's case) healthy can win it.

The achilles heel for the Warriors right now is FT shooting, Jackson-Davis and Kuminga miss way too many FT's.

Another NBA tournament, this time for the All-Star game?

Maybe the NBA tournaments turn into a good thing, but they resemble scrambled eggs right now.

The previous NBA All-Star game was nothing to watch.

Everything they've tried is stupid IMO. Honestly it really is a tough problem to solve. Obviously, no one wants to risk injury in a meaningless game and none of us want to watch a game that's meaningless to the players. So, my stupid suggestion (and it's just as stupid as every one of their fixes) is that the All Star Game should be played by surrogates (non NBA players) that are each, individually chosen and sponsored by an All Star. The surrogates will wear jerseys made for them with their name and the all star's name that sponsored them.

I like your idea.

Maybe have a format where G-League stars and NBA free agents play equivalent FIBA talent in a tournament in the guise of the USA vs Europe or something to this effect.

I'm sorry but NOBODY is watching that. Might as well make it the puppy bowl with puppies representing each all-star.

Is anybody watching the NBA All-Star game, anyway? I haven't watched it in years, except for a snippet or two.

I'd like to get the WNBA involved somehow, maybe in a skills challenge.

Make the All-Star game virtual again. Remember pre-bubble when there was a tournament of players playing 2k? Maybe I was sucked in by the pandemic and our viewing standards were at an all time low. The Suns did produce both finalists, Ayton and Booker, so it was easier for a Suns fan to get in to. No injury risk though. It allowed us to see a new side of the players as well since they were on camera and mic'd up.

I'd also say HORSE or PIG should be added to All-Star Saturday events. Saturday is generally mode exciting than Sunday so they should lean into that. Cut bigger checks to get guys like Zion to participate in the dunk contest. It's a shame we never got LeBron in one. He's too ego and image driven so potentially losing to someone like a Derrick Jones Jr, for example, is not a spot he'll allow himself to be in.

Maybe if they billed the Rising Stars as the All-Star game, I could get into that.

They could still have the All-Star selections.

Again, the WNBA should be involved somehow.

You're probably right but it's no dumber than the fixes they've tried and are now trying. Don't get me wrong, if I were in charge, I wouldn't try my idea either. I just thought I'd beat them to the punch when they start running low on stupid ideas as I expect mine will eventually show up in some form.

I really do think it's almost unfixable and they'd be better off just doing away with the actual game completely. Just make it a weekend festival to reward and acknowledge the top players. I'm sure they could book plenty of acts to make it entertaining.

I took surrogate as a substitute. It's still a worthy idea IMO, less the puppies, but we can include them as well.

The Nets are reportedly open to trading anyone on their roster.
