It hurts to even entertain the idea of a trading for a 35-year-old Jimmy Butler, but if the Suns did such a trade, one of the Suns big three would have to go.

I'm guessing the Suns would try to fix the chemistry issue in the trade.
You are looking at it wrong.

What it would do is get us out of the 2nd apron for next year when Butler leaves as a free agent.

To me that is more valuable than either Beal or Jimmy Butler.

I stand behind Sham Charania's reporting of the story. The other parties didn't like being caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

Leaking that Butler wants out would hurt the Heat's leverage, so I see why they would deny these rumors. This would make them the seller and not buyers in the Butler trade scenarios.

I think the media (except for SA) reports what they hear to the most credible knowledge that they have, there has to be some basis to it all.

The suns just tell Gerald what the local area wants to hear. Of course the Suns would and should explore trade options.

There are reports too that Beal might not actually be as happy here as he thought, and maybe his role isn't what he wants it to be. His role in Miami could be greater than it is now, and he's reported to be okay with waiving his ntc.

Give me Butler over Beal any day. We won't be seeing a smiling Beal all the time while getting our butts kicked, instead we will see a dog who wants to win.

My only concern is the amount arse Butler, KD and Book will slay...hopefully that's not a distraction.
He fits a bit better because he can play small forward and rebound some, and he is clutch.

I don't think that is nearly enough though to get through the Boston's and OKC's of the world though.

I bet Beal would be fine going to Miami. How could he be happy, he is a clear third wheel and the Suns just aren't very good.

Could renting Butler change KD's contract extension? Could we shed both of them at the same time?

I don't know if I agree that it makes no sense for the Heat. I actually think Beal would thrive if he is once again put into being the primary scorer on a team.

Jimmy Butler is old and likely won't resign, if they value Beal at all they might actually like the fact he will stay beyond this year and give them a #1 scorer.

Also there are not many players with a big enough salary to make a trade for Butler, so they don't have a ton of options.

The last sentence is especially true when one considers there are not a lot of good trade options when one looks at the size of Butler's contract.

A third party is needed, that is the major drawback even if Butler and Beal are on board for the trade.

I really don't see any conflict between what Shams is reporting versus Gambo.

The Heat not having interest in Beal in 2023 could still be true.

When Gambo didn't immediately shoot down the new Butler trade rumor, it told me there might be an element of truth to the idea. Gambo doesn't often break Suns news, but he does seem to contacts where he can ask if the information is correct.

Also, Shams has been incredibility reliable in his reporting. I can't remember when Shams was wrong, although I'm sure there are times when things didn't happen. However, that doesn't mean the reporting wasn't based on good information.

Shams strikes me as a reporter that has multiple reliable resources and he often double-checks everything before reporting.
I don't recall the exact scenarios but I do remember Gambo saying Shams reporting wasn't accurate more than once. Gambo has pretty much established he has contacts in the Suns org and other places. He repeatedly has shot down "insider" reports in the past and been right so I trust him. Gambo over the years has shared a bunch of Suns insider info. It's not his full time job but he has been there every single major move the Suns have made.

I agree though, he specifically didn't say the Suns were NOT interested. I am hoping he has an update because he indicated on the show yesterday he was going to do some homework.

I've never heard Butler say he wants out of Miami. IIRC, it's more like he found the trade rumors to be interesting.

Yeah, Beal might enjoy a different role elsewhere. He likes to play point guard and create.

The Suns adding a couple of point guards has made his role somewhat redundant.

I'd love to do a Beal for Butler swap. At least I'd see one player that seems to give a damn. Right now it's a frustrating product to watch. Only when KD is healthy are we any good. As far as I know, Bridges has still never missed a game.

Gambo may have shot down "insider" reports, but I can't recall him breaking a big story about the Suns. As I see it, it's more of a fact checking role.

I'm not minimizing this because when I hear about a rumor involving the Suns I go to him to see if the report is credible.

However, when I want breaking news, I will always go to Shams first.

That's because most "breaking" stories are just rumors. He waits until there is something to report. He has broken a bunch of local stories. If you search the forum you can find them. At any rate, even though it might not be feasible to move that albatross of a contract with Beal? I do find it at least intriguing that Beal doesn't appear to be steadfast on staying here and willing to waive his NTC if a situation arises. That's something new we didn't know. I still think it will be Nurk, Okogie or Grayson that goes. Although I am not a fan of moving Grayson at all. I think we need his shooting desperately in Bud's system.

Players can't make public demands anymore. It's part of the new CBA. They'd be subject to hefty fines and potential suspensions if they do. Don't expect a player to confirm any trade demands. Their lack of a denial says the most now, under the current framework.

That was a positive of the new CBA. Owners didn't like how players could tank leverage by making public demands so the new rule is supposed to curb that.

Thanks for the reminder. I completely forgot about that.

Shams is incredibly accurate, breaking big stories. I leave the local reporters to cover the small stuff.

Yeah, I'm only teasing because we all have our favorite sources. ;)

If the Suns could trade Beal for a position of need, that would be astounding, no matter how one slices it.

What I'm saying is I've never heard any comments from Butler that expressed any unhappiness being in Miami or even a hint of such.

A trade demand is at a whole new level. Agents mostly take care of these things. That's one of the reasons why they generally don't embrace leaked information.

Your opinion of Beal? I think I have seen enough sample size to say he feels completely redundant on this team unless they move him to the bench. That's why if they can move him for a forward I am all for it but I don't think there are many options to match that contract.

We agree, the Suns have a lot of redundant parts in the backcourt.

That's why trading for Butler doesn't seem as farfetched as I initially viewed it.

The trade works and it fills a need.

If the Suns maintain their status quo (I'm not referring to only the Jimmy Butler trade rumor) I'm going to be extremely disappointed.

The Suns problems are much bigger than the return of a star player.

This is what I referenced above.

Gambo just confirmed, though that the interest specifically by Butler on the Butler side is legit and he’s interested in playing with the suns and the suns might be his number one choice.

Yes, Gambo confirmed the story by Shams was correct. This might help push a trade along down that the genie is out of the bottle.

Gerald provides only the obvious, in this case the obvious thing the suns FO would say.

This is all leveraging by the Suns FO, if we say we want in on the Butler trade then that means we are willing to give up more.

I like Beal, but Jimmy would be a far better fit for this team. I hope this somehow gets done
