A dead Avenger is coming back to the MCU, but this time he’ll play a villain

Sony has chosen the actor who will play Kraven the Hunter: Aaron Taylor-Johnson. As you’ll recall, he already played Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron. He had one of the shortest on-screen Avengers careers because Maximoff was killed during a battle with Ultron. We were expecting a Taylor-Johnson cameo in WandaVision earlier this year, but Marvel snuck in Even Peters as Quicksilver in the TV show to confuse the audience.

The fact that Sony cast Taylor-Johnson as the well-known Spider-Man villain seems to cement the idea that he won’t be back as Quicksilver. This is disappointing because the character might be dead in the main timeline, but we’re just about to explore the multiverse, starting with No Way Home later this year.

Sony and Marvel have yet to reveal whether Kraven will appear in Spider-Man 3, but it makes sense that this particular character would be involved with hunting down Peter Parker (Tom Holland) now that the world thinks Spider-Man is a criminal. Not to mention that Sony desperately needs this MCU connection to turn its SPUMC into a success at the box office.

J.C. Chandor set to direct Sony’s upcoming Kraven the Hunter film. The movie is slated to premiere on January 13th, 2023, joining Sony’s increasing collection of movies from the Spider-Man universe.

Also included in the universe are the Venom and Morbius franchises — and Sony is already using the MCU’s Spider-Man to market them.

So how are we getting the villain spinoff before ever seeing the villain? smh
It's so crazy. Sony still owns the rights to some 300 Spider-Man villains or side characters, IIRC.

Sucks that there couldn't have been a Kraven the Hunter in the MCU because of how Marvel sold off all of their rights to so many characters.

People on Twitter saying "Oh, look, Sony made a White Panther and dropped the trailer on Juneteenth."

Kraven ain't really a villain... kinda an anti hero...
His battles with spider stemmed from the fact spider was often wanted by the police and being vilified by Jonah Jameson inflammatory rhetoric... kraven was acting as a bounty hunter trying to bring in a wanted criminal from his perspective

Sorry for the delayed response...had to wash my hair.

Currently at an 11%. Evidently this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Sony is reportedly giving up on the Spiderman extended universe.

Can't believe how many bad decisions Sony has made when it comes to the Spider-Man property over the past 20 years.
Only been a handful I can think of. Spiderverse animated movies, their decision to allow Marvel to run with the character and then reversing the decision to end that relationship (Tom Holland strong-armed Sony) into allowing that collaboration to continue.

Sony should sell back the rights. Their "solo decisions" have overwhelmingly been a nightmare.

I never said there wasn't any good decisions, only that there have been a lot of bad ones. And I stand by that. :)
