There is a huge cap hit if we release him in the next two years. It would be a record for a cap hit. If it is so easy please state how.
see the Denver Broncos, who just did the same thing with Russel Wilson, and are still going to make the playoffs the same year they took the huge cap hit.

The "we have to keep holding firm to our middling QB who gives us no hope of playoff success, or even getting to the playoffs" stuff is a defeatist attitude that the Cardinals have beaten so many of our fans into a bloody pulp.

Be realistic with yourself then be honest with me.

Holding the #1 pick in the draft, do you really think they’re going forgo a QB then signed Sam Darnold to a big contract?
I would do that were I in their spot. And I’d trade down to gain more picks. I’d use that spot to reload as I don’t think any qb is worth the slot.

There’s no truth to more savings in 2026 if cut before 2025?
Well sure, if cut before June 1st 2025 there will be ZERO cap hit in 2026. But there will be a big hit in 2025.

If cut AFTER 2025 but before 2026 there will be a relatively small hit in 2026.

I fully get that you want Murray gone before 2025 - I just don't think that would fit Bidwill's M.O.

It's less if traded though right?
I've seen that written here multiple times, but I'm not sure how that could work.

According to this page:
For the team trading the player, a trade is pretty much treated the same as the release of a player – the team is relieved of paying all future base salaries, but still must account for the bonus money that has already been paid to the player. Just like with the release of a player, the remaining unaccounted-for bonus pro-rations will accelerate and count against the team’s Salary Cap.

For the team acquiring the player, a trade means that the new team acquires the player’s remaining contract, but does not have any liability for any bonus money previously paid to the player.
Plus, I'm skeptical that any team would trade for Murray, given his current contact.

The problem is that he physically hasn’t been able to hold up. Legs are slowing down and he’s throwing 87mph fastballs. The guy just doesn’t have a counterpunch without the physical gifts.
Can't disagree with what we're seeing plain as day since the bye, but like some others, I have to question why this is happening. By all accounts Murray takes great care of his body and is only 27!

He was plenty fast enough on some of his great runs early in this year.

He does have a history of being impacted by injuries more than, and longer than, most players. (If he's dealing with an injury, in no way does that minimize the issue, since it seems the issue affects him EVERY YEAR by this point in the season, so that's just who he is at this point.)

Is it psychological?!

We may never know... It's just baffling to see it happening.

Denver took a $35M cap hit. We would take a $54M cap hit. Plus, you would need a starting QB. Starting QB are not cheap. If Murray was the only problem on this team, it might make sense, but he is not. Our OL is a bunch of journeymen, and the DL is worse. Stills is our leading sackmaster with 4.5 sacks.

Because of his size, he might just wear down over the course of the season more than most other players.

I guess that we will just have to agree to disagree that Kyler Murray has no believers out there."
Even his staunchest believers ON THIS FORUM have pretty much given up on him. The Cards have had two different GMs and coaching staffs try to make him successful.

The Raiders have Tom Brady and others helping the ridiculous Mark Davis now, so don't count on some wacky idiot who doesn't know better to bail out the Cardinals.

Mark Davis will still get ultimate say and anyone who’s got that Dumb And Dumber hairdo will still be somewhat susceptible to Kyler, even with Tom Brady’s clone whispering in his ear.

Denver took a $35M cap hit. We would take a $54M cap hit.
Denver is taking an $85M cap hit for releasing Wilson - $53M this year plus another $32M in 2025.

Per OTC, if the Cardinals release Murray pre June 1st 2025, there would be a $58M dead cap charge and a $43M cap savings on his salary, for a net impact of -$15M. (In other words, releasing him would cost $15M more on the cap than keeping him).

If they designated him as a post June 1 cut, there would be a $40M dead cap charge in 2025, and $18M in 2025. They'd save Murray's $43M salary in 2025 and come out $3M ahead, and WAY ahead in 2026 with Murray's $53M salary off the books.

If they cut Murray pre June 1 2026, they'd have "only" an $18M dead cap charge and a net savings of $35M in 2026.

Many disagree, although it won't be easy.
I only disagree with the part of us being stuck with Kyler for two more years. I say rip the band-aid off and move on. I don't have a problem going after a Justin Fields or Cooper Rush and build the defense. If they suck too you're going to have a top draft pick to start over with another QB. If that happens you have (hopefully) a good defense to work with.

Let's do this. Invest in the DL and get a pass rusher, draft or free agency. Tweak the coaching staff and get rid of Terrell as the one coaching the WRs and the one advising Kyler on the sidelines... and then in the fourth RD get a WR with legit speed to stretch the field, and see what happens :)
Waste of resources IMO. Kyler can get the ball down field he's to busy watching the rush so he knows when to hit the fetal position.

There is no QB in this draft worth taking. Unfortunately.

KM gets 2025. Unless he turns in an unbelievable season he needs to go. I just don’t know what the options are in FA and draft but you have to start your search for a QB that can finally elevate your team long term

Yes, this is what will happen IMO. They will do their best to find a possible answer who isn't Clayton Tune. But it's not going to be some wild trade or cut him just to cut him. These guys will do nothing major at QB until after 2025. And even then they won't want to. They are going to hope they can win with Kyler next year. Which could happen IF the defense becomes terrific. That is almost as unlikely as Kyler being terrific next year.

How about this for plan?

Build an awesome WR room.
Clearly a fast WR is needed. Dortch is a below average #3 and a below average punt returner. One of the most overlooked problems this season is how much field position he has cost us because I swear he is maybe the worst PR I have ever seen here at not fair catching the ball and then it rolls 15 or 20 yards down field. For example, in OT Sunday. Instead of coming up and fair catching it at about the 30 he lets it hit, and it rolls 20 yards downfield and we are starting the drive at the 10. We get a first down by going for it on 4th, but are still barely past the 20. If we get the ball at the 30, and still get a first, then we are already only maybe 20 yards from Rylands being able to kick a game winner.

The comprehensive plan is continue a rebuild that looks like it’s not working. By sheer number of top draft picks MO should have hit on one break out star. A bunch of JAGs.

His free agents have been awful and we just signed two vets that are great leaders but another year of age might be the end.

The coaching staff has me longing for K2s clock management and they are clueless after the bye.

You get to K1 and the dude just doesn’t have it in crunch time. Zero ability to calm the situation in a big moment and captain the team. Gagging is something I have ever seen be cured at the pro level of any sport.

The remedy for all this will be multi facetted.

1. MO needs to continue to build through the draft. The scouting department needs to be turned over. We are still carrying many of the same scouts from the last decade.

2. Sign some differences makers on defense. Get Crosby, Garrett, or Parson in here on this line. We aren’t finding anyone in the draft with that impact next season. This should help our young corners immensely. Oline still needs massive improvement as well since they are only good at run blocking.

3. Fire Petzing if Gannon wants to be here long term. This offense is stuck in the past and is a one trick pony. If our run game fails the game is over and we have seen it numerous times this season.

4. The hardest part will be replacing K1. I don’t want to see us have another 20 years of crap QBs like we have had for most of the Cards time her in AZ. If the Cards move on fine but you better not bring stiffs in here like Rodger’s or Cousins or guys who can’t throw like Fileds. Find someone in the draft and bring in a Vet that can be a backup that can actually play. Clayton Tune never was a serious pro option and another wasted pick by MO.

Parsons and Crosby are both saying they have no interest in leaving their teams unfortunately.
