Hopefully it means they'll be aggressive in younger free agents, rather than spending or overspending for the Dwight freeneys of the world. They're going to want guys that can have an impact immediately and in the future not just be one year and done.
That was the reasoning we used in free agency last year. So, yeah, that's what Monti will try to do. Let's hope it works out better this time.

Only morons build teams in FA. Of all the options it's the least value and the highest chance of striking out.

FA is for building your depth and breadth of the roster, along with later round draft picks. If you want to add stars you try draft them and you trade for them.

He may well be many things, but he's not wrong on this and it's literally how every team thinks.
Agree and Bidwill did say that Cards will be active in free agency but he and Monti both feel the draft is the best way to build the team.

How many FAs did we acquire last year?

Of those, how many produced value equivalent to their contract?

I’m too lazy to do the research but I’m sure management does which might explain their thoughts on the upcoming free agency period.

I’d rather focus on trades…

Well Philly signed three all pros in free agency last season so sometimes it works out I guess.

If the Monti is going to pack up his bags on one of the major paths to improving your team, he should just resign.

Building throughFA and not getting any tools are two very different things.

MO hasn’t lit the world on fire in either aspect of building this team. Draft and especially FA.

He has made some good promo videos about his deal making in not drafting a possible All Pro defensive edge.

Why are you thinking that there is some all or none choice here when no one said it?

Philly is actually a well run franchise that knows how to win.

We just have fans and media willing to accept mediocrity and the occasional playoff appearance and stick up for the worst owner in professional sports.

Imagine the owner of the biggest sports franchise in the city and the media don’t ask a single question about another lawsuit involving him and how he has a bad reputation in running said team.

Even in this thread you got Brit talking about how the Cards know how to build a team. It’s embarrassing.

We two are rarely in full agreement. We are in full agreement here. I'm bracing for the "Relax, there was literally no one we could have signed who could have helped us" and "We can't make players sign here, I'm sure Monti tried his best" excuses.

What I really can’t wait for is for people to start parroting Mikey’s “BJ Ojulari is going to be dominant” vomit he spewed when spinning about spending money on FA.

MO might have a longer leash than JG, but if he doesn't improve the roster this offseason, he's setting himself up to get fired.

If things go really bad this year, and JG gets canned, they likely have to restart the rebuild. MO then might have one more year in 2026 with a crippled roster to save his job, and I wouldn't like his chances.

Less than nine wins this year and the rebuild is a failure. 2025 is win or go home.

I would want to retain JG with a chance to work with an improved roster under a competent GM.

I’m not convinced of “dominant” but I do think he’ll be a decent contributor. Edges normally take 3 years to fully blossom. He’s really only had 1 year. He’s another guy who could take a step forward. If the Cards do sign or draft a productive Edge, he could benefit from the competition or the increased defensive pressure.

Michael Bidwill to @Bickley_Marotta on the reasoning for the 20-40% price hike in season tickets:“We’ve seen inflation, and it’s impacted our business too, the sports industry. So we’ve got to continue to keep up. We're trying to offer more value when we do that."
Poor baby. Things are so bad they have to pay for a bigger knife to slice up the pie.
