Ayton not panning out was the biggest hit. CP3 was great but he couldn't take us where we needed to go, just like the great PG's before him.
At a minimum, we need a significantly better PG than we currently have and an aggressive, young and athletic big who can take over big games to pair with Booker, (what we hoped Ayton would become). Hard to do with our current assets and restrictions.
If we want to build a championship team with Booker, we can't realistically start the process until KD is traded and Beal is off the books 27-28.
Hopefully Durant and Beal are both off the books this coming summer unless the Suns wait another season and trade Bradley as an expiring contract for the 2026/27 season with the no trade clause understood.
They could more easily waive and stretch Beal's contract during the 2026/27 season as well.
