10 thoughts - Cards' day three draft

I agree that a one year deal would not be wise. It is too expensive when you can not manipulate the salary cap, but have to take the hit right away. However, for that reason, I would not mind signing him to a three year deal. You can construct that in many way, and since they have basically no...

https://www.nfl.com/news/cap-strapped-giants-expected-to-part-ways-with-james-bradberry-by-end-of-the-wee Schoen wisely waited as long as he realistically could before making a decision on Bradberry, who has plenty of value as a quality corner but also carries a $21.86 million cap number into...

10 thoughts - Cards' day three draft

Oh, definitely. A fourth round pick is too much. If they will not restructure his contract, they will probably have to cut him if they don't find a trade partner, since they need the big cap room they can get, so trading a pick for him would only be to keep other interested teams away.

10 thoughts - Cards' day three draft

I disagree, BritCard. I think he was better last year than you imply, and the year before he played at a very high level. And sure, the Giants would take a big cap hit, but if they keep him, he would count about 21 million against their cap. By trading him, they would save more than 13 million...

10 thoughts - Cards' day three draft

Maybe you are right, but it is also worth considering that effective today any free agent deal will no longer count against the compensatory picks formula. I have a thought that it might have been one reason they did not sign anyone to a big contract. Both Chandler Jones and Kirk should give...

10 thoughts - Cards' day three draft

First of all, “impressive” that I cannot count to 10, and have to include two point 5’s. I was tired, the girlfriend called, my head hurt, the moon was in an usual position relative to the stars, and I can give many more great excuses. :D I absolutely agree, CL. It is too focused on...

10 thoughts - Cards' day three draft

Well, you are obviously right that only a few of them (relatively speaking) become stars, but I did not write that they would be starts. Only that they will be the foundation of your team. And if you look at every roster in the NFL you will see that they include many players drafted on day...

10 thoughts - Cards' day three draft

1 – People tend to shrug their shoulders of the third day. You are fooling yourself if you are doing that. Sure, many of the players will be cut already after training camp, but the third day is where you build the foundation of your team. Not every player can be a first- or second round pick...

    Best available

With the 6th round coming up it is time to look at some of the best available for the Cards. In prioritized order: Cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields, Penn State. Edge rusher Christopher Allen, Alabama. Offensive lineman Dohnovan West, Arizona State. Offensive lineman Marquis Hayes, Oklahoma...

10 thoughts - Cards' day two draft

I don't know, but based on everything I have read the last couple of months, safeties Tycen Anderson (Toledo) and Percy Butler (Louisiana), linebacker Grant Morgan (Nebraska), and cornerback Kalon Barnes (Baylor) are four of the very best special teams players in the class.

Would you trade a 2023 third round pick toget back into the 4th rd.

CC, it is also worth remembering that, because of the contracts Chandler Jones and Kirk signed, the Cards might get at least one, possible two, third round compensatory picks.

10 thoughts - Cards' day two draft

Krang, I forgot to mention it in the post, but my thinking is that I am not comfortable with A.J. Green. I think that he can absolutely be upgraded, and it is not like his contract is enormous. You could cut him, or even keep him over Wesley, if you wanted. To me, having two bigger guys on the...

10 thoughts - Cards' day two draft

1 – I think I reacted to the McBride pick like most Cards fan: WTF?! In my opinion, you factor in need with your picks this early in the draft, and I did not at all consider tight end a need. Little did I know that Maxx Williams still has a long way back, and suddenly the pick makes more sense...

Several fine edge rushers left for the third round. Cameron Thomas, San Diego State, Brandon Smith, Penn State, Alex Wright, UAB, Christopher Allen, Alabama, Dominique Robinson, Miami (Ohio).

I agree, Outcent. I wrote about it in my mock some weeks ago, so I will just copy it. #87 – Brandon Smith, linebacker / edge rusher, Penn State I am aware that several members on this board will now be ready to curse me, but please let me explain. Yes, I selected what is officially a middle...

10 thoughts - Cards' day one draft

1 – This has Kyler Murray written all over it. Hollywood was his best friend (I don’t know that, but well, football-wise), so this definitely helps making Murray stay. 2 – Extremely important that they got a third round pick back. They need it. 3 – How the fans and players from a player’s...

    Best available day two

Several of these players probably will be unavailable late in the second round, but they are some of the best fits, so I thought I would mention them anyway. Edge rusher David Ojabo, Michigan. Edge rusher Arnold Ebiketie, Penn State. Edge rusher Drake Jackson, USC. Edge rusher Cameron...

    BOLD PREDICTIONS

Their pick is between picks from the Patriots, the Packers and the Cowboys. I predict less than two minutes coverage of the Cards' pick.

Beware These Players in the Draft + Reasons NOT to Draft

You are obviously correct, Krang, that there is no such thing as a non-developmental draft class, but I certainly like your thinking about maybe not going for the gold, but more look for solid picks. In my opinion, Karlaftis, Zion Johnson, Kenyon Green, Kaiir Elam are that kind. Sure, they could...

    Zion Johnson

The overall rankings in the media doesn't matter much, Slanidrac. It is about fit with the individual team, and that will obviously differ from team to team, and player to player. According to the analysts the wide receiver-class is highly diverse this year, thus there should be something for...

NFL Draft rumors until draft day

"Georgia's George Pickens is a true outside X receiver who could rise into the late first round. He could also go deep into Day 2, due in part to off-the-field concerns. Pickens told me that he believes his range is Nos. 25 to 45, and the Packers, Chiefs and Cardinals are among teams that have...

Players You Hope/Think Will Be Arizona's 1st Round Pick

The closer we get, Garth, the more I want Jameson Williams. I would not want to give up any picks this year to move up, as I think there are too many holes to fill out on the roster, but I would be fine dealing a future pick or two. I think that he can be a difference maker.
