    THE Newcastle United FC thread

Yep and a delightful surprise. For once it was a complete win, too. No "got a lead then Howe coached scared by parking the bus" vibes. Now clinging on by the skin of their teeth stuff. It was a slim win, 1-0, but a very deserved win. The two big stars combining to take all 3 points. Must win...

Or he could have been proactive instead of reactive, like the other teams that have completed trades during the season.

I'll be rooting for Spurs again, then! Newcastle drew Brentford at home.

What would you give up for…

Uh, DR hasn't played a snap and Beej is raw and unproven. If we're going to sign any Big Johns in the offseason (which is questionable, though we desperately need to), it has to be along the defensive front.

    Kyler Murray Debate Thread

You kind of have to be viewer based to have any hope for a guy who has not one single significant W in his portfolio. We're not going to compare him to Warner because he will not shine in that comparison. Once he's won Super Bowls, playoff games, or even a clinching game to get to the playoffs...

    Kyler Murray Debate Thread

FTFY Look, the facts are that anyone can cherry pick stats to support their argument. Unless someone's trying to prop up Tom Tupa as our best ever QB, and no stat can support that! If Kyler can be consistent by the end of the year, great! He'll have earned a lot of credit. If he can't, there...

    Kyler Murray Debate Thread

Those numbers look good but, as I said in a previous post, he's played a lot of "I'm not going to lose us the game, but in no way will win us the game" ball. How much have we been clamoring for some "risk it for biscuit" play? So, yes, good numbers, but not good enough play throughout the...

    Kyler Murray Debate Thread

Consistency for me is not laying stinkers as often as playing stellar and putting together whole seasons you can point to and say, "Yeah, this was a good year for him." Pretty straightforward. The best he has achieved in recent memory has been that he was good enough last season to give him...

    THE Newcastle United FC thread

The victory over Chelski in the cup was much, much better. I mean, Howe went gutless and parked the bus in the 2nd half and if Chelski had their shooting boots on it would have been a massive collapse, but he rode his luck and they advanced. Got a favorable draw, too, for the next round. Now...

Kyle thinks we should beat Miami first, then consider becoming buyers at the trade deadline

True, and there should be caution, of course. No one's advocating trading high picks--unless someone like Garrett becomes available. Trading 6ths for guys that might help the pass rush is doing nothing to overextend.

Spot on here, @Card'em. Add to that "recency effect" that he didn't utilize FA near as much as he needed to, and it looks even worse.

Oh man, no. Gotta counsel against absolute words like always. *Sometimes* he has been Drew Brees inside a decent pocket and with competent receivers, *Sometimes* he has been bad all on his own. I think the kid is the very definition of inconsistent.

Good point on the offense. I think Monti was just fine there. He just criminally under supported the defensive part of the roster.

Kyle thinks we should beat Miami first, then consider becoming buyers at the trade deadline

If the defensive front 7 didn't look like a hardened pile of dog crap stitched together with spit and baling wire, I would agree with you. His "big" FA signings on the DL were stinkers before they got injured. The DL and Edge groups lack any kind of pass rush ability. He was counting on the...

Kyle thinks we should beat Miami first, then consider becoming buyers at the trade deadline

Playing above our level despite a feeble halfhearted effort to "build." I mean, imagine what our record could be if Monti had actually fully utilized the offseason and cap space? Maybe we'd be competitive in the 2 blowout games? Maybe we topple the Bills?

The tail-between-the-legs approach to FA tells me all I need to know about him. Conservative to a fault. Probably has to conserve $$$ because of Dollar Bill's son Mikey.
