    Musky in Arizona

    I need to go camping

Went to the campground up top Mingus. Good place; no electricity but had water. The "lake" really isn't a lake. We also got snowed on. But had fun nonetheless.

Good to know. I'll probably bring my bear can anyway.

Best camping not too far from Phoenix area for a 4-year old?

I really like Coconino; it was a clean forest floor and once you got on the forest roads for a bit, you were out in the wilderness. No one was around. Forest roads were in decent shape. I plan on going back. FYI, I was off of Fire Road 109 by the Whitehorse Campground.

Best camping not too far from Phoenix area for a 4-year old?

I had just gone to Coconino, which didn't have any fire restrictions at the time (although it may have them as summer progresses). Williams was 15-30 minutes up the forest road with several hotels. Heading to Mingus Mountain next, which currently does not have a fire restriction for dispersed...

    I need to go camping

Good to know. I need to get the topos and actually sit down to do a solid plan before mid-June. Right now, it's just a pie-in-the-sky wish.

Just curious for the backpackers - what's your base weight? I'm currently running about 20 lbs.

    I need to go camping

Good to know! I heard about it from a friend not too long ago and put it on my list. I'm hoping this season and to make it a week or so.

Yeah, REI has a similar BA version for about $200.

That's a good find. I have to remember to check the REI website since they're having their annual sale.

    I need to go camping

I've been looking at the BA Scout 2, which weighs a pound. Problem is that it's crazy expensive. I'd like to hit the Ruby Mountain trails sometime in early August, and I'm looking for ways to cut weight for that week. Sounds like you got a hell of a deal with that backpack.

Thank you. I know the Half Dome 2 plus gets knocked for weight, but you can't beat the size, especially when you're a tall guy like me.

WCC looks intriguing. Only concern is that it may be too early in the season if there's considerable stream crossing.

    I need to go camping

That's exactly what it was - no water. No streams, no lakes, not even a mud puddle.

    I need to go camping

Looking for hiking trails in Northern AZ for a three-day hike, if anyone has any recommendations. Would like to have a reliable water supply if possible.

    I need to go camping

Went out this weekend to the west side of the Charleston peak (the roads and towns are on the east side of the peak). It was deserted, although there was a well-maintained dirt road right up to the trailhead. The underbrush was a lot thicker than I expected and I didn't get nearly as far into...

    I need to go camping

It's awesome. I'm heading to a little valley by Charleston tomorrow, and they have a weather grid that overlaps the valley (it's not a very big valley, maybe half mile across and a mile and a half deep). Gives me good detail as to the weather, including temperature and precipitation.

Not certain if it's been posted before, but the NWS's User Defined Area Forecast is awesome for getting specific weather conditions for your campsite. https://www.nws.noaa.gov/wtf/udaf/area/?site=mkx

    LVG's Golden Knights Thread

On one hand, you're absolutely correct - it's good that the NHL recognized the foul up and apologized, hopefully so it doesn't happen again. On the other hand...

Part two - 3 day hiking trip planned for Mt. Charleston in 2 weeks - west of the peak (most everything is east of the peak).
