Cavs send us a Toronto pick instead of their own?

How so? They traded the second-to-last pick in the first round for a future first rounder. That’s comparable value, at least — the fact that we happened to get a good player with that #28 pick notwithstanding.

Cavs send us a Toronto pick instead of their own?

Giving up a mid-first-round pick for nothing except dumping the $6M/1yr left on Jahidi White’s contract is in-****ing-sane. When I said we might want to move one of the picks, I meant for something of comparable value. The picks are very valuable. You don’t just throw them away.

Cavs send us a Toronto pick instead of their own?

This brings up an interesting point. If the Cavs do make the playoffs, their pick and the New York pick may be very close together. By a similar reasoning to the above, this isn’t an ideal situation. We may want to move one of the picks if that happens.

Cavs send us a Toronto pick instead of their own?

I don’t think we’d be terribly interested in that. Not before the draft, anyway. We might agree to a draft-day deal, if there’s somebody on the board that we particularly like. That seems unlikely, however. The New York pick may come just before the Toronto pick, so anybody we...

Cavs send us a Toronto pick instead of their own?

    1) I don’t think they do have the option to complete the deal by sending us another pick. 2) If they do have such an option, they shouldn’t send us the Toronto pick. They should trade the Toronto pick to Sacramento for Sacramento’s pick and cash, and then send us the Sacramento pick. (It...

Suns 2nd, 1st round pick from Knicks - details

Nice work, The Post, but you left out some important details. Detail #1: What is the protection level in 2009? Detail #2: Do the Knicks have the option to complete the deal by conveying a protected pick? Detail #3: Am I even going to be alive in 2010? Why do I give a damn?

Don't get too attached to those picks

Some scouting report project Chiriaev as a SG, despite his 7’1” height. However, Chiriaev has stated that he will go to college unless he’s going to be a top three pick. He’s probably not going to be a top three pick, so I hope he changes his mind. Why not stay in the draft? What’s so...

Don't get too attached to those picks

It’s a long shot, but not completely unrealistic. We are currently tied for the fifth-worst record in the league. If we finish the season that way, we will have a 7.65% chance at the #1 pick. There’s also a (slim) possibility that we’ll have a few extra ping pong balls in the hopper...

    Worst Contracts in NBA history?

Sort of, but not much more than Googs did prior to signing with us. Hill had some problems with his ankle his final season at Detroit. But the prognosis looked good — he was expected to make a complete recovery. Didn’t. (Googs missed half of his final season at Minnesota — broken foot...

Don't get too attached to those picks

From what I’m picking up, it seems like Howard is the consensus #1 pick for good reason. He really seems too good to pass up. If we get the #1 pick, what do we do? We could take Howard and plan on playing an undersized lineup with Howard or Amare at center. We could plan on playing...

How Much $ Would It Take To Get Kobe?

I retract my prediction of a long NBA-imposed suspension in the event of a conviction. There are precedents that I was forgetting. DeShawn Stevenson is one. (See my post in the "Predictions on the Googs trade" thread.) Ruben Patterson is another. Precedent says the NBA doesn’t do much.

    Predictions on the Googs trade

D’oh! Stevenson! How could I forget? We were discussing in another thread what kind of suspension Kobe might face if convicted in the Colorado case, and I mentioned that I couldn’t think of any remotely related precedent. Yes I can. Stevenson. He plead guilty to statutory rape, was...

How Much $ Would It Take To Get Kobe?

The big risk, I think, is that Kobe gets off but comes out of it looking extremely guilty, á la OJ. While there are some vocal people on each side, I think that most reasonable observers are currently of the opinion that we don’t really have enough information at this time to know. That may...

    Worst Contracts in NBA history?

I think that Penny’s is getting magnified in our minds simply because it’s so close to come. How would you make the case to a neutral observer that Penny’s contract is worse than Juwan Howard’s? Or, for that matter, Grant Hill’s?

How Much $ Would It Take To Get Kobe?

Certainly would, now that you mention it. Suspensions are not considered served when a player is unable to play. You hear this come up every now and then when an injured player gets suspended; the suspension doesn’t start until he is medically cleared to play. It begs the question, how long...

Suspension or no, he would not be performing during such period the services he is contractually obligated to perform, and therefore would not be entitled to payment.

    Worst Contracts in NBA history?

I’d say Hardaway contributed at least as much as Juwan Howard, and for considerably less money (especially adjusted for time). In that case, I’d have to say, Scott Layden. ;)

    Predictions on the Googs trade

Nice piece of work, newfan. I’m impressed. I’d like to keep Casey around, but depending on how they’re working the tax distributions, this might make a lot of sense. Unfortunately, the CBA doesn’t specify how the tax proceeds are to be distributed, and all you can get from the media is...

    Worst Contracts in NBA history?

I vote for Alonzo Mourning’s last contract from New Jersey. In terms of dollars per minute played, that’s gotta be near the top of the list. It was like $22M for 215 minutes. Unlike most cases of contracts torpedoed by injury, this one was not insured.

How Much $ Would It Take To Get Kobe?

There is a provision for terminating contracts in the case of eggregious moral turpitude. The limits of this have never really been defined. The only attempt, as far as I can recall, is when Golden State attempted to terminate Sprewell’s contract after he choked PJ Carlesimo. That was...
