Suns updates and discussion for the 2020-21 season

On the radio today they mentioned CP3 could opt out of his contract after this season. Maybe a smart play for him to leverage into a 3-4 year deal. Its possible the suns could need a point guard sooner. I thought he was locked in for two years.

    NBA Trade Deadline Thread 2021

So the top six teams in the west are: Suns, Lakers, Jazz, Clippers, Nuggets and Blazers. Suns have played: Lakers (2games) - W- w/o Kuzma, Gasol or AD - W- w/o LeBron, AD or Gasol Jazz (Haven’t played) Clippers (1game) - L-...

    NBA Trade Deadline Thread 2021

There may not be any major moves but I don't think they should stand pat because we are #2 in the conference. I "think" the last time we beat a team over 500 that wasn't missing a key starter was the 76er's 18 games ago. Its been a great season, the team has played great but I have an uneasy...

    Deandre Ayton discussion

That's the Ayton we need. We can beat any team in the league if he could do that on a regular basis.

When was the last time the suns beat an above 500 team that was not missing a key starter? Seems like forever.

Lakers @ Suns Sunday game thread 3-21-21

Hmmmm. I don't know. Most every NBA has a great game or several during their carrier. How much the player costs; draft position, trade assets or salary raises expectations. A #1 pick is supposed to perform at a high level consistently and DA hasn't. That is the disappointment IMO. If he was...

Lakers @ Suns Sunday game thread 3-21-21

Good point on Ayton guarding Morant. He did an excellent job. Stats are stats but the fact is, during games he has significant mental lapses, fouls, bobbling passes, weak moves to the basket and passing out of the paint when he should dunk. I don't think anyone is saying Ayton is horrible...

Ayton ranks 6th in personal fouls out of 500 players! That can't be good.

Would this make us real contenders

AzStevenCal. I think we are essentially saying the same thing, though you have articulated it better. 1. By win now I really mean this year or next, based primarily on CP3. Winning a championship this year would require a miracle. 2. If Ayton plays to his potential and we add a guy like...

Would this make us real contenders

The window was opened by Paul but shut by DA. No one really expected him to play this bad, but there is still hope. I agree they have to do what ever they can to win now, before Paul's time runs out.

Would this make us real contenders

I think the window is now if we could count on Ayton to be even his average self. But you are right his play lately has been a huge problem. Based on his recent play he is going to get destroyed in the playoffs. In the last 2 games he has played a total of 43min and received 11 fouls, grabbed...

Would this make us real contenders

Fold may have been a poor choice of words. I don't analyze games as closely as most on this board, but it seems like he plays not to make mistakes and when he picks up early fouls it gets worse and he really struggles. I can see the pressure of the playoffs compounding the problem. I imagine...

Would this make us real contenders

A lot depends on how Ayton does in the playoffs. If he plays well this is probably accurate. I don't think a total collapse by DA in the playoffs is out of the question though. If he folds we are going to need a top guy upfront.

WOJ: Suns aquire Torrey Craig from Milwaukee

Yes, but maybe it was and there were no opportunities. The CP3 move turned out better than I expected so I'll continue to be patient and have faith that JJ and Monty know what they are doing. I'm confident they have a plan, which is the first time in a decade I can say that.

WOJ: Suns aquire Torrey Craig from Milwaukee

Yes, I agree with your first three points. We need a big PF who can rebound, score and defend, especially if we can't count on Ayton to end games. Last I checked Ayton was averaging something like 11rpg, and our next best rebounder was at 4 or 5rpg. Its not really worth worrying about right...

    Deandre Ayton discussion

The problem with young people having kids is usually the financial burden and who they have the kid with. I'm pretty sure he can afford diapers so that's not an issue. If he and his girlfriend continue to get along he will likely be fine. It may even motivate him to improve. Now that's as...

    Lamarcus Aldridge

That may be worse. Last thing the suns need is a disruption in team chemistry. That's probably Jones's biggest success is putting together a group of guys who all seem to get along and accept their roles.

Who could the Suns add to the roster that would help?

There are two sides/points of view on most everything. Look no further than the pass Ayton missed in last night’s game. He often has valid points; they are just always negative, and he beats his point into the ground. He is also often confronted to nauseum which compounds the problem. Having...

Who could the Suns add to the roster that would help?

Relying on three point shooting to win is dangerous in the playoffs. Luckily the suns also rely on a very good defense and an effective bench. It's no secret we need a PF especially with Ayton's inconsistent play but we need the right PF, a guy who can score, Play defense and fit with the team...

Grizzlies @ Suns Monday game thread 3-15-2021

Ayton was on Morant most of the 1st qtr, (think morant was scoreless in the 1st). Ayton hasn't been perfect but neither has Book or Bridges. Ayton has played hard and impacted the game on both ends. One step at a time.

    Deandre Ayton discussion

I think Monty and the players, (Booker and CP3), have reached the end of their patience. They've tried teaching, coddling and confidence building and now we are on to tough love. The next few games are going to go a long way in determining Ayton's future. He is either going to fold or come out...
