    2024 NBA Draft Thread

Yup, Suns are dumb. That's essentially just trading the 22nd pick for the 28th pick. So lame.

I agree. That would be lame.

Well, what I am expecting is that the Suns will surprisingly pick someone everyone likes. And then several minutes later, they announce they are trading said pick for someone everyone hates.

Supposedly one of the guys the Suns were excited about early but kept moving up the board so wasn't expected to be there when they pick.

At least I won't have to lament is passing on him later, which James Jones would have undoubtedly done if he had somehow dropped to 22. Jones will seemingly never get that size in the post and rebounding and interior defense is still a thing in the NBA.

If the Suns had hired a coat rack instead of James Jones, we would have gotten a better GM.

2024 NBA Draft talk: Suns own pick 22

He sounds too much like Josh Okogie to me. And I don't think we really need another Josh Okogie when we can't really even play the one we currently have in most situations.

    2024-2025 Around the NBA Thread

I'm guessing there will be a lot of those in upcoming years. Every team is going to have to sell someone (or multiple "someones") as the "face of the franchise" to keep their fanbase minimally engaged. So expect a lot of teams giving bad extensions to moderately talented younger players coming...

Indeed. I would guess the short list might be NY, Philly, LAL, LAC, Miami, back to GS (maybe), Dallas (maybe)... and I'm not sure where else.

But don't be surprised if Craig is James Jones' Plan A, B, and C.

Agree. I would be on board with getting Missi if he's still available. He could even be plugged in at PF alongside Nurkic to give the Suns an actual rim protector.

    2024-2025 Around the NBA Thread

Giddey would actually be a good fit with this Suns team. We just need someone who could be a high level facilitator without being ball dominant. Giddey fits that perfectly. He would be like having a 21 year old Ricky Rubio, while still having some potential to long term improve other aspects of...

Are you talking about Missi or Filipowski? I assume that's who Yuma was referring to. Missi's defense is supposed to be his strength. And he's mobile for his size, which Nurk certainly is not, so I don't see the comparison.

    Zach Lavine next team?

So is Lavine a worse contract than Beal?

    RIP: Donald Sutherland (1935-2024)

RIP. He was always excellent and memorable in so many roles. And he had such a distinctive voice... I could always recognize him whenever he narrated something or did voice-over work.

Probably not much options otherwise. At least it's an attempt to address a serious deficiency, whether successful or not.

Monty Williams Fired (Hired by Detroit)

While I certainly agree with you that James Jones is an idiot and a half, I do believe that Monty also seems like a pretty inflexible guy in the way he does things. I think he's the type where things start out good because of his outward affability, but go downhill after a honeymoon period...

Monty Williams Fired (Hired by Detroit)

That's my suspicion, too. In spite of outward appearances, he always seemed like a "my way or the highway" type that eventually rubs people the wrong way. We saw some of that here, and it explains a lot of his history elsewhere in the NBA.

Monty Williams Fired (Hired by Detroit)

Huh... has to be more to it than just the poor record last year. Everyone expected the Pistons to be bad, so it wasn't like they really underperformed that much. To be on the hook for that much money, something else went on that impacted this decision.

RIP Willie Mays - age 93

RIP. Incredible that Willie Mays and Jerry West would die within one week of each other. Two of the all time iconic players in each of their respective sports. It reminds me of 2016 when Muhammad Ali and Gordie Howe died within a week of each other. It's surreal when coincidences occur like that.

2024 NBA Draft talk: Suns own pick 22

I like three guys that are reputed to be possibly available when we pick: Kolek, Edey, and Daron Holmes. But with the Suns luck, I wouldn't at all be surprised if all of them are gone when our pick rolls around and we end up with... Bronny James.

2024 NBA Draft talk: Suns own pick 22

If the Suns are going to have to take a chance on someone who is 50-50 chance of being a bust anyway - which they are where they are picking and with the quality of this draft - I would much rather they spend their pick on a position of need than on another pointless undersized wing.
