Suns @ Lakers Tuesday game thread, 12-5-2023 - West Quarterfinal, In-Season Tournament

Exactly! Very hypocratic. These mentioned no-calls are in-line with previous ones in favor of Lakers, in the same game. Nurk's touching AD's hand on putback was normal contact fighting for rebounds. In the split second, AD didn't control the ball yet, similar to Reaves temporarily having the...

Suns @ Lakers Tuesday game thread, 12-5-2023 - West Quarterfinal, In-Season Tournament

We lost due to lack of proper offensive play sets, which together with lack of good true PG led to many TOs. We still have not found a way to deal with body-glueing, borderline-foul defense to Book and KD, and with double teamings. I thought it's old playbook to set backdoor screens etc. as we...

Grizzlies @ Suns Saturday game thread, 12-2-2023

JO got on Bane's nerve who only came to life in the fourth without JO on him. Besides the 3 ORB and 3 stls, he caused maybe 3 offensive foul calls and had hands in many other gained possessions. Hope Vogel play him more and design some plays to move him away from 3pt line on O. We are just raw...

Can't understand how coach sticks to Yuta despite apparent loss of shooting touch in this game. He got abused on D as always. Metu, KBD in his place much better.

Suns @ Knicks Sunday game thread, 11-26-2023

Our D and O schemes are getting better with each game. Goodwin played loose and confident offensively within a clearer structure. Yuta's 3pt touch also seems back. Metu proves to be playable. The rest for KD and Allen gave other bench players chances to get court time, with great results. Go Suns!

Warriors @ Suns Wednesday game thread, 11-22-2023

We can win by defense. Okogie was huge with his hustles. Little is raw at both ends but has the right physical and technical foundation to be an above-avg rotation player. Vogel stopped experimenting with giving major min. to Yuta and Goodwin, with success. As PG, Saben may be better than...

Suns updates and discussion for the 2023-24 season

The composition of lineups Vogel tried out has not been quite right. He played Yuta and Goodwin a bit too much and Little and Okogie too little. Yuta's offensive production has been mediocre to justify his negative impact on defense. Goodwin's been really bad as a ball handler, and his 3pt % is...

Suns updates and discussion for the 2023-24 season

Picking from behind by swarming KD, like the one by KeldonJ of the 1st loss to Spurs, and causual dribbling through traffic are the main cause for his TOs.

Suns @ Jazz Sunday game thread, 11-19-2023

Book's shooting was not good this game, but his presence relieved KD from handling the ball too much, which preserved a lot of energy for KD for all the late game heroics we have come used to.

Little can be a crucial defensive factor in this team, as he has the height, speed and strength to defend all positions excellently or adequately. Right now better than Yuta as rotation player.

It's right time to tighten up our defense with Yuta out.

Suns updates and discussion for the 2023-24 season

For a defensive minded coach, Vogel played Yuta too much who was the weakest link on D, without sufficient off. production to justify it. He inserted Little in 2nd half vs. Utah instead, our D became better. Individually, Eubanks/Okogie/KBD/Goodwin are the best defense savvy rotation players...

Suns updates and discussion for the 2023-24 season

BrightSideofTheSuns has several articles that get the Suns 4th q woes correct, their rather simple game plans and potential weakness on both sides of the court get figured out and brutally exploited by the other team, by the end of the game.

Defense wise, JO on Edwards, Eubanks/Metu/KBD on Towns seem crucial.

Thunder @ Suns Sunday game thread, 11-12-2023

The same problem in the 4th qrt meltdowns: the other team scores with high efficiency meaning our defense is bad, and at same time our off. efficiency sucks despite not having Okogie in there. Beal is apparently tired in the 2nd halves, the way he moved on court and many his shots hit just the...

Thunder @ Suns Sunday game thread, 11-12-2023

Game rotation paid creat attention to defense. It's also the right concept to use Okogie on O, with KD and Beal trawing so much attention, there is a lot space for him to operate in paint.

    Lakers @ Suns Friday game thread, 11-10-2023 - In-Season Tournament Game #1

Coach's plan seems to outscore them. But without off. spacing, our off. efficiency gained by playing Yuta and Allen there often gets outweighted by encouraged off. efficiency of the opponents, particularly if it's the savvy superstar like LBJ. JO's or even Little's pros and cons in place of...

Thunder @ Suns Sunday game thread, 11-12-2023

If it's close game, Suns lose as they cannot stop good teams with Allen in there, who with his shooting was preferred by coach. Our offense is too stagnant in half court sets.

    Lakers @ Suns Friday game thread, 11-10-2023 - In-Season Tournament Game #1

Your thesis would be right, if parking Okogie on the 3pt line were the only way to play him on O. But it is not. Also, it affects both O and D. We simply couldn't stop the Lakers in the 4th.

    Lakers @ Suns Friday game thread, 11-10-2023 - In-Season Tournament Game #1

We have two main weakness on D in Allen and Yuta who got completely abused and exploited by LBJ. Yuta committed at least 4 shooting fouls on him in short time span, and when Allen got switched to LBJ in the last 6 min in the 4th, Lakers scored, with Reeves and Redish 3pts as results. With KD and...

Suns @ Bulls Wednesday game thread, 11-8-2023

Agree. Early with a whole new team, we have had a lot of careless TOs, like the pass by Yuta intercepted by Drumand on top of 3pt line. The players have so many new issues to learn while trying to win, such problem is expected. We need a true PG to thread the needles with the subs, that's all.

Suns updates and discussion for the 2023-24 season

The team is still getting used to one another. Allen is great off ball, but cannot really be relied on to create on his own. So is Yuta and Goodwin, who both would benefit from return of all of big-3, though their min then will get cut. Eric is the only one besides big-3 who can create, but he...

Beal was rusty, but his shooting touch will be back. We got into trouble that Yuta and EG couldn't hit anything.

Spurs @ Suns Thursday game thread, 11-2-2023

Pop always gets Spurs to play great well-functioning team ball. Suns defense has a lot to improve, they gave up too many open shots at the start and was quite exploited at the end after the tie. And Wemby is a freak that's hart to prepare defense for. Vogel has been experimenting with lineups...
