    Suns @ Celtics, Thur 3-14-24

Bol improved over the last game in this respect. Need more experience to balance def. needs, know his size advantage, and space himself better. FI, he should have communicated with RO to avoid RO knocking him down badly not aware of Bol's readiness to block Brown in the air.

    Suns @ Celtics, Thur 3-14-24

Tatum knows KD's defense traits too well and nailed like 4 3s right with KD's "close" coverage. You need to disrupt the confident shooters rhythm of drible-stepping-shooting like Okogie does, not just keep your own predictable paces.

    Suns @ Celtics, Thur 3-14-24

Our main problem is transition D, particularly after bad TOs. Bol is playable as long as his weakness on D is covered. RO almost killed Bol under basket, like he did Book. Yak.

    Suns @ Cavaliers, Monday 3-11-24

The drifty problem was why he disappeared for a long time after a couple of games early this season. Everyone has a flaw, the game plan needs to cover that to make the player playable for sustained minutes.

    Suns @ Cavaliers, Monday 3-11-24

They kind of started hack-a-Nurk with Nurk's FT shooting tonight. Besides, we were having around a 6 pts lead, their main weapon would be PnR with Garland, and Nurk is more vulnerable there than Eubanks.

    Suns @ Cavaliers, Monday 3-11-24

Our main problem is still defense. The adjustment came way too late, after Garland shot 7/8 for 3s in the 1st. Eubanks follows simple instructions but lacks defensive instincts and spacing awareness after switches, but he is already the best we have. Boxing out for rebounds was an issue too, for...

    Celtics @ Suns, Saturday 3-9-24

Boston is a better TEAM, their role players mesh well and are confident in their roles within their game plan. Our D never figured out how to stop their PnR. Our rebounding in the 2nd half a lot better though. And on offense, Allen is shell-shock again, RO is streaky as well known, and Gordon...

    Celtics @ Suns, Saturday 3-9-24

Our main problem is D awareness after missed shots, boxing out is non existent against the best team in NBA. Bol still need to learn not to jump at all, as well as being in position to cover their 3pt threat. On O, Allen's pass TO is type of avoidable ones. And we have a reoccurring issue of not...

Suns updates and discussion for the 2023-24 season

Damion is just too weak on D and became unreliable on 3s late last season. The team has no place for him.

Too bad, he played great D on Doncic and just started to reemerge on O.

    Frank Vogel Defense

The current situation with the Suns is a combination of several unfavorable events that played out over the season. 1. Vogel is supposed to be the def. minded coach but our new guys were below expectation defenders, from the 4 guys we shipped out before deadline, to Little and Bol and even...

    Raptors @ Suns, Thursday 3-7-24

The recipe of not losing the 4th qrt battle is to have Beal and Allen handle the ball most of the time, with it landing into KD's hands in a more flowing way most of the time, as what happened in this game. From 2nd qrt on, our defensive attention became not as good and gave up too many open...

    Raptors @ Suns, Thursday 3-7-24

What's on Nurk and KD's mind, with those TOs! And KD not running back for D, not moving quick enough for Trent's 3pt shot, quickly 5pt in secs before the timeout.

    Raptors @ Suns, Thursday 3-7-24

At 8 made 3s, it's getting mental on Allen, missing 3 attempts already. He did make a corner 3 that didn't count. Hope someone else starts hitting the shots in the 2nd half. And they ought to cover Trent and Dick better who are hot on 3s.

    Suns at Nuggets, Tuesday 3-5-24

Comparatively, we did great defense throughout the game. In the 4th, we also held them to 20ish points. It's our own offensive inaptitude, not able to score more than 12 pts there. In OT, we held them to merely 5 pts, about the equivalent of 12pt in a qrt.

    Suns at Nuggets, Tuesday 3-5-24

Gordon single covered KD in the playoffs and won the battle. KD got a lot of problem getting a good shot up against him, Pope and even Porter, one on one, most of the game.

    Suns at Nuggets, Tuesday 3-5-24

Allen's mind is vulneral to emotional swings, it seems. Afer 8/8 3s, he attempted quick 3pt shots twice, as if he wanted to break his own earlier record. After the misses he again appeared less confident with his next 2 3s, by how he missed them. But his defense on Murray was excellent, as well...

    Suns at Nuggets, Tuesday 3-5-24

Even when in long stretch in the 4th we couldn't hit anything, we were still in the game due to very good defense and small number of TOs. We can play good D with timely double teaming Jokic and rotating to deny his passes. Despite not shooting well for most of the game, Beal's playmaking was...

    Suns at Nuggets, Tuesday 3-5-24

Defense, ball movement, mininal TO, we don't have a talent problem,, only a game plan one. Allen's mental issue is over, very confident in everything he's been doing on the court.

Thunder @ Suns game, Sunday 3-3-24

One fellow poster suggested that our offense should be like there were non-stars. I agree, at least to start with this mindset. Get the offense flow like in the 1st qrt in the win vs. Lakers, with nobody pounding or holding the ball for too long, not waiting for 10 sec. or so to feed KD who has...

    Beal at PG

One reason Saben got court time is that he drives with force and causes adjustments of D and thus creates some space. Beal is better at that. With KD unable to generate aggregate positive outcome out of his ISOs, Beal's offers a great complementary approach to attack the D.
  22. C

Thunder @ Suns game, Sunday 3-3-24

Now it's clear, our 4th qrt woo is solely due to our strategy to stubbornly try to feed KD and Book for ISOs, and it's become so predictable and every team has figured out how to disrupt it, namely with physical defense and quick double teams. That forces a lot of TOs and delays. TOs often lead...

Thunder @ Suns game, Sunday 3-3-24

He's been like that for at least 3 games now, after he went 2/9 on 3s. Kinda shell shock. A mental thing. Vogel should deliberately play him fewer mins and build up his confidence slowly, not force him to shoot, risking to shoot the team out of the game.

Rockets @ Suns Saturday game thread 3-2-2024

This loss is on Vogel. Both Allen and Beal were ineffective on offense and weak on D, yet he stuck to them in the first half for too long. When with defense of bench we almost closed the gap, he subbed them out to insist on finishing the 1st half with the same ineffective starters. Similar...
