Season thread-the road to the playoffs

Just when I was wondering how this season could get any worse - - Kata gets hurt, Webb is getting shelled once again, and our bats are being silenced by.....Jose Lima?!?! AAAAAUGH!!

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

I fell asleep around the 7th inning, and when I woke up, I saw....Elmer?? In the 9th inning?? Wow - - what was even more amazing is that we won! Of course, they could stick Mark Grace on the mound again as long as we get the W!

    Trade 'em all...

Gonzo, Sexson & RJ should remain, while all other non-BabyBacks should be traded for prospects, not retreads! . The team should stick to one path, and rebuilding not only gives the team a chance to evaluate & build talent, it's a bit less expensive. One more thing: it's time for Kniffin to be...

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

Guess I spoke too soon about the 'pen... 5-4, Gnats sweep the series. Valverde has gone from stopper to useless in a few short weeks, so the club might want to send him back to Tucson for some remedial training.

Scott Service, you're hired!!! Actually, not a bad job by the bullpen tonight - - and a clutch HR by Danny Bautista in the 9th!

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

Bases loaded, nobody out in the top of the 7th....sure enough, four pitches later we are out of the inning with ZERO runs scored!! Finley swings at the first pitch for an out, then Shea grounds into a DP! 4-3 Gnats in the 7th. AAAAAAAAUGH!!!
  7. IndyDevil

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

Equally nice of the Gnats to return the favor with an eight-pitch 5th inning of their own!!

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

Nice of our 1-3 hitters giving Hermanson a six-pitch 5th inning - - our ineptitude is certainly an all-around team effort! Scott Service got recalled from Tucson and we sent down....Bruney? I guess releasing or demoting Dessens would make Joe Jr look bad for the Durazo deal (as if he didn't...

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

Well, we did beat the Cubs 4 out of 6 this year....sadly, that (along with the perfect game) will be the highlight of the 2004 D'Backs if they don't find some answers soon! What ticks me off the most is that when I see the bullpen come into a game with a lead, I fully expect them to give up the...

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

The left-handed 'specialist' strikes....er, walks again!!! Randolph comes in the 7th, gets the side out pretty quickly, then with Bonds coming up in the 8th, BB goes with Bruney & Choate?? In Choate's defense, his first two pitches were strikes to anyone other than Bonds - I know Barry has good...

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

I interpreted your statement another way, BC867 - you are correct about our lack of discipline at the plate, and how that could affect an ump's judgement.

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

Damn, I didn't know NBA officials were moonlighting... Unintentional or not, if umps gear their calls to a teams' W/L record, baseball is in much worse shape than we thought! They have historically called a tighter strike zone on rookie pitchers, but calls out on the field should be equitable...

Not looking good for a split today

Trust me, I'll hear all about it when I go in for my 3rd Shift tonight!! Weak starting pitching (RJ excluded), sore & tired bullpen....at what point does the pitching coach take some of the blame for this disaster??

Not looking good for a split today

I left work early to watch THIS??? :bang:

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

Valverde pulls through and notches the save, leaving the tying run stranded at second base....I guess nothing is easy for this team!! Regardless, a much needed win, and hopefully Webb can get a split for us tomorrow afternoon.

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

Well, at least we'll always have the perfect game to look back on...5-0 Marlins in the 2nd, one out. ...sigh...

Our luck finally ran out...Fish take the lead 4-3 in the 3rd - - Finley nails Redmond at the plate to end the misery.

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

Is BB in such a daze over the bullpen he is starting to blame the baseball bat itself?? He had Franco's bat checked after Julio took Valverde's pitch over the RF fence - pretty bush league stuff IMHO.

Season thread-the road to the playoffs

.....and heeeeeere comes the bullpen!!!  Koplove gives up two runs, lead cut to 4-2. Valverde needs to shut things down NOW!!!

    How long do we wait?

So, we go from Showalter (authoritative) to Brenly (buddy-buddy), and now we need to go back to a Showalter-type again?? No, I don't think that is the answer....our lineup is slowly but surely changing from vets to BabyBacks, so wouldn't it make sense to have a manager that has worked with the...

Gambo: Season Blown, It's Time To Deal Randy Johnson

If we are still floundering at the All-Star break, then it might be time to ponder some personnel moves (including moving RJ if the price is right); it's still early enough to make up some ground, especially in a weak division like ours.
