Fan or no fan this team is toast

Watching the past few games makes me think it's time for my annual switch over to ASU football mode - - losing two to the Padres is just too much for me to take, especially with a road series coming up with the Giants! This club has lost its way down the stretch, although I can't blame BB for...

Did I just hear Schulte correctly - Shea hit a home run?? Wow...:O We need this one - - and several more like it!!

Is the Fat Lady beginning to sing ?

Like I said before, I can sound like an idiot with ease...I wasn't specific in my stat recalling, my point being that Shea & Matty offensively seemed to be the same, yet Williams was far better defensively; we had to pay him $10 million whether he played or not. Regardless, it's a moot point...

Is the Fat Lady beginning to sing ?

If the Fat Lady isn't singing, she is warming up in her dressing room... I couldn't post after watching the eighth inning last night - what we lack in hitting is matched by our horrible defense, and now it appears as though our once reliable bullpen is joining the fun!! At the risk of...

Burroughs strikes again - Padres now up 5-2....my MLB.com picture is a bit hazy, but didn't Hillenbrand have a decent shot at stopping the ball??

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

I was busy watching the Cubs meltdown against St Louis (I forgot our game started at 8:30 CST tonight), and now it looks like I made it in time to watch Curt do the same...we absolutely need this game tonight so we can gain ground before the Gnats come to town!! Seven hits off of Schilling...

    Bob Brenly

All good points, DWKB - I guess I'm placing too much faith in the coaching staff to straighten things out on the field, knowing that there is little chance JC would fire Joe Jr. for what you previously mentioned; the fall guys for Jerry are usually found in the dugout and not in the front...

On the bright side, that was only our second loss when leading after 7 innings this season (49-2); on the minus side, I wrote in the season thread about how BB's hunches are starting to adversely affect the club, especially hoping that certain players work themselves out of slumps - Oropesa was...

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

I know it's up to the pitchers to pitch and the hitters to hit, but whatever happened to having defined roles on the club, mainly in the bullpen?? This hunch-playing crap by BB is killing our chances at post-season play, and tonight's fiasco was a shining example of that!! Did BB honestly think...

The operative word for the next few seasons will be "cheap" when it comes to D'Backs payroll - at least that is how the front office seems to be functioning right now; when some of the huge deferments are paid off, then maybe they will take on more salary.

Are the Diamondbacks underachieving or not?

    B. I'd feel better about getting to postseason if I knew we could score runs on a regular basis, but this lineup just doesn't have any offensive spark....that is to say the typical BB "Lineup of the Day" has no spark. Isn't it about time to actually stick with a lineup for more than one...

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

Might as well have been a perfect game by Clement - I wouldn't be nearly as mad!! Hillenbrand looks overmatched at the plate, Finley is slumping badly, our defense was crappy today, BB somehow forgot that Bautista blasted the hell out of the ball Saturday, leaving the "hot hand" on the bench...

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

So did Kata in the 6th - replays showed he beat the throw, much like Hillenbrand was out in the 8th....like I said, it had to be a make-up call. Smolder, I disagree with your Cubs/D'Backs assessment - this D'Backs team doesn't break anybody's heart, it simply takes the heart out and stomps on...

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

The hit Zambrano gave up was nothing more than a make-up call from earlier, although it was hard to tell if Simon's foot was off the bag; regardless, Zambrano should have great stuff tonight, since the hacking 'Backs only let him throw 61....yes, SIXTY-ONE pitches through the first seven...

Shea bombs one, the Marlins just lost, and the Phillies were already losers today....very nice!!

Do you still think Mondesi was a good trade?

I thought it was a good trade mainly for who we had to give up - I was under no illusion that Mondesi was the answer to our batting woes, and so far he has done nothing to dispel that.

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

Nice way to end the game, boys - two no-swinging Ks!! Do the D'Backs have any coaches or cameras watching the balls & strikes and how/where they are being called? If ANYONE would have noticed that the idiot behind the plate was using the Maddox strike zone tonight (4-6 inches off the outside...

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

I was only able to catch a bit of the game on my car radio (Cincinnati broadcast), and heard Spivey's HR call; it was even better to hear that the Phillies & Marlins both lost!!

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

According to Gonzo (from AZ Central), the Braves' catcher was so far up the line that Luis felt if he tried to slide, he would end up short of home plate, and that stepping over the tag was a better option. I didn't see the play myself, but a couple others have said that sliding was a better...

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

Could it be too late for BB to instill ANY discipline on this club? Brenly has let the players run the show for so long that anything resembling discipline or punishment might result in hostility; it might be easy for BB to put Kata or Hammock in the doghouse, but everyone else gets a free pass...

    Does Randy need more time?

I'm beginning to think that maybe shutting RJ down for the season might be a better idea - he doesn't look anything like his normal dominating self, and I would hate to see him ruin his remaining few years just to try and salvage this season.

Nice job by Schilling getting out of the 1st inning without allowing a run....it sure would have been nice to get Kata in from third with ZERO outs!!

Great two-out triple by Cintron in the 8th, and Mantei comes in to close it out!!! Now it's off to Cincinnati for the D'Backs - - I will be there Wed & Thu nights to cheer on the Snakes, and to have some of the players sign my AZ Republic front page (photo copy) from the WS victory!

Season thread. The Diamondbacks start their run to the playoffs tonight

IMHO, RJ normally uses a lot of leg drive in his delivery, but since the surgery, his lower body looks really stiff, depending on upper body strength for power. Obviously he is looking out for his knee, but I wonder if he came back too early? He hasn't pitched awfully, but he appears a lot more...

Mondesi makes up for his defensive lapse with a nice dislodging of the ball from the catcher's mitt!!
