‘Impossible’ Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight is on

http://nypost.com/2017/06/14/floyd-mayweather-vs-conor-mcgregor-is-stunningly-on/

It’s official. Like it or not, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will meet in a boxing ring on Aug. 26 in what likely will wind up as the richest fight in boxing history.

UFC president Dana White, Leonard Ellerbe of Mayweather Promotions and Stephen Espinoza, the executive vice president and general manager of Showtime Sports, began the promotion of the pay-per-view bout Wednesday.

“I thought it would be impossible to deal with Mayweather Promotions, to deal with [Al] Haymon and to deal with Showtime,” White said on a conference call. “I thought it would be an impossible deal to do. But it was the right fight at the right place at the right time so we got it done.”

Ellerbe said all parties signed a confidentiality agreement not to disclose financial terms, but Mayweather had demanded at least $100 million to take the fight with McGregor collecting at least $25 million. Figure them to make much more.

The bout likely will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Ticket and pay-per-view prices have yet to be determined. White said a date for the two fighters to meet in their first press conference had yet to be worked out.

Interesting to see a MMA fighter in a boxing ring.

Dana White reveals details from Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor negotiations
When negotiations first started to make the fight between UFC champion Conor McGregor and boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather, Dana White didn’t exactly sound confident that it would all come together.

As recently as May, the UFC president was rather pessimistic when asked about getting a finalized agreement together between Mayweather and McGregor.

“I knew this was going to be a nightmare to get done,” White told “The Herd” last month. “There’s going to be a point where I’m done. This isn’t what I do, this isn’t my business, and I’m definitely going to walk away.”

Feels like there is real danger of this turning into a joke.

Good for Conor. This might be the greatest hustle of all time. I dont mean that disparagingly. I genuinely respect Conor for getting himself into this position.

Conor figured out a way to earn a $100M payday.

Most of humanity has been trying to figure out how to make $100M dollars. Those who achieve it usually have to work for 40 years and have a business empire. But Conor did it in 5 years.

He'll make that money then retire to luxury. Dude won at life. He figured it out. Good for him.

If Mayweather either takes this fight lightly and does not come into the fight in prime condition, or, if his age finally catches up to him, I can see Conor winning... I don't think Mayweather has ever faced anyone as strong as Conor, and perhaps as quick... But, if Mayweather is in prime shape and if he continues to defy the laws of aging, I don't see this being an entertaining battle at all as Conor will not be able to lay a glove on Floyd and it will resemble the Pacquaio debacle...

I think Mayweather got the $100m.... Connor is said to get $25m... but still a huge win

Updated Mayweather vs. McGregor Odds
Public support of Conor McGregor might be waning, at least somewhat, when it comes to his perceived chances to make history and beat Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match. The UFC star is a bigger underdog in the Aug. 26 fight than he was just a few weeks ago.

McGregor’s betting odds at Bovada.lv are down to +400 after moving all the way to +375 less than a week after the fight was made official. Mayweather has since gone from being a -550 favorite to now a -600 favorite. The undefeated boxer has even better odds to win at Las Vegas sportsbooks.

UFC champ Max Holloway predicts Mayweather-McGregor winner and – spoiler – it's neither fighter
LAS VEGAS – Max Holloway had barely exited the octagon after his title-unifying UFC 212 win over Jose Aldo when he was asked about who should be next for his title: Frankie Edgar or Cub Swanson.

The champ was diplomatic about it. If it came down to it, he’d be OK with giving Swanson (25-7 MMA, 10-3 UFC) a rematch after a UFC on FOX 15 encounter that ended in a third-round submission for Holloway. But he did seem to lean toward former lightweight champ Edgar (22-5-1 MMA, 16-5-1 UFC) – who, ultimately, would allow Holloway to add another champ to his list of victims.

UFC better have a plan for post-Mcgregor going forward. After this Mayweather fight, hes gone. Guy is getting $75 million. You think hes going back to the UFC for a paltry $2M per fight? Heck, $10M per fight? Its over.

Between the loss of Mcgregor and the overrated fighter which was Rousey, UFC has suddenly lost all its star power.
