“Arsenal will be there”: Gunners now want to sign “world-class” £63m star for Arteta – Journalist

Arsenal are interested in signing one of the Premier League’s in-form strikers this summer.

The Gunners are poised to spend big during the next transfer window, and a marquee centre-forward will be the top priority for manager Mikel Arteta.

The club have already been linked with several names, and Fabrizio Romano claims that Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is an ‘absolute top target’.

The reputed journalist added that Liverpool are also considering a move for the Swedish star. Arsenal have identified RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as another option.

He said on his YouTube channel: “Big, big, massive proposals will come to the table for Alexander Isak.

“Arsenal will be there, Liverpool are also there. For Arsenal, he’s the absolute top target, Sesko is the other name on the list. They are the two main names.

“For Liverpool, he’s one of the names [Isak] they’re considering. They have already made contact with some of the people close to the striker.”

Arsenal may struggle to afford Isak this summer

The 25-year-old has been in superb form for the Magpies this campaign. He has accumulated 23 goals and five assists from 33 appearances in all competitions.

The Sweden international is presently in the prime phase of his career. He is quickly developing into a ‘world-class‘ striker, as described by the Premier League’s official website.

Arsenal rate him very highly, but their chances of signing him could be bleak if the Magpies qualify for the Champions League with a top-four/five league finish.

Isak has a Transfermarkt value of £63 million, but Eddie Howe’s side could easily demand £130-150 million for the striker if they make the elite competition.

The Magpies will be in a strong position to negotiate with another three years left on his contract.

The scenario could be different if they miss out on the competition, but Arsenal may still require a huge outlay of at least £100m to purchase the former Real Sociedad ace.

As things stand, we don’t see the Gunners breaking the bank for Isak, considering they also need to sign a new defensive midfielder, a back-up goalkeeper and a versatile winger.

There is a higher possibility that the Gunners will pursue a deal for Sesko instead.

The Slovenian has been equally good, with 17 goals and six assists this campaign. He will have a release clause between £59m and £67m in his contract for the next transfer window.

The 21-year-old lacks Isak’s Premier League experience. He may not hit the ground running from the off, but he could be a potent goalscoring striker once he adapts to the league.
