“Wanted to be so fast”- Fabrizio Romano reveals why Chelsea acted quickly on Quenda deal

Chelsea completed a shock move for Geovany Quenda on Friday and Fabrizio Romano has revealed why they acted so fast.

The Blues agreed a deal worth around £40m for the 17-year-old Sporting Lisbon star, and he will remain on loan there until the end of next season.

Quenda has already completed his medical and signed a seven year deal, with the option of a further year at Stamford Bridge.

Why Chelsea moved so fast for Quenda

The news came as something of a shock given there had been no links between Chelsea and Quenda, with a reunion with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United seen as his most likely destination.

Chelsea have previous of completing deals in silence with the signings of Renato Veiga and Pedro Neto two such examples of the Blues keeping deals under wraps until they are completed.

Quenda is regarded as one of the best talents in his age group and is already an established first team player at Sporting, with the Blues planning to use him as a winger.

The teenager has made 43 appearances in all competitions this season, including ten in the Champions League and he’s scored two goals and provided eight assists.

It’s seen as somewhat of a coup that Chelsea have been able to pull off the move for Quenda and Romano has revealed why they acted so quickly.

“Chelsea wanted to be so fast on Geovany Quenda because they knew Bayern were keen on the player, who had asked to be informed about the player in November, December and January time,” he told his YouTube channel.

“Chelsea anticipated other clubs and accepted Sporting’s terms.”
