A 10 seed is about right. Texas will be a tough matchup. They're long and one of the best rebounding teams in the country. We need Marshall to come out of his slump and Bachynski to stay out of foul trouble. Texas doesn't shoot a lot of 3's so they're going to be coming at him down low.

Not a bad draw for ASU in the first. Michigan in the second however probably wouldn't be pretty with Gilling having to guard one of Stauskas or GR3.

I don't like this match-up at all. Devils won't be going far in my billion-dollar bracket, sadly.

The way they've been playing lately, Cal Poly would've been a tough match up... :bang:

Ha!! Point taken, but I think we would hammer Cal Poly!

Texas can't shoot, which gives us some hope. But they rebound the heck out of the ball so it is going to be a real challenge keeping them off the glass.

Texas hasn't won outside of Austin since late January. I don't think either team will do more than win this game.

My guess? Texas in a close game.

Weird first half. We out rebounded them but they shot almost 60%.

Jahii is turning the ball over too much.

Wow, that hurts. They played so hard, especially the big guy.

Definitely had Texas beating ASU in my bracket. I just didn't think this was a good match up for the Devils and to be honest, they aren't that great of a team.

Ouch.

Probably the worst way you can lose a game.

ASU basketball will be in a twilight zone of mediocrity forever. I don't think they could do better than Sendek though.

Boy tough game. No one was stepping up for ASU, down by 14 in the second half. Then it seemed like everyone was doing great, Gilling canning 3's Marshall getting in the lane, Carson getting to the line, etc. ASU played with a lot of hear to battle back and looked like the better more mature team. Took the lead, playing great defense. And then those Texas airballs killed us. Riddley got the boards and the put backs. And ASU loses a heartbreaker.

That's ridiculous. ASU is a big school, with some resources (though not the resources of places like Texas, UNC, etc). It only takes getting lucky and having one Lute Olson walk through that door to completely change your schools fate forever.

ASU might have finally found that guy in football, but Sendek clearly isn't the guy in hoops. I've been a defender of his, I've tried to be patient, but he needs to go. Obviously, with a new AD, Herb just having made the tourney and trying to raise money for a stadium and likely a new basketball Coach, Sendek will stay next year. Which is unfortunate, he'll be a lame duck, further lose the fanbase, and likely bring in a terrible recruiting class. That will set his successor up for an even more difficult situation.

There's been some wonderful moments with Herb, but not enough consistency. There's no reason ASU shouldn't be in the tourney every other year, or at worst every 3 years at worst. Once every 4 just doesn't cut it. Sendek has failed to capitalize on a weak UA and weak Pac10/12, now that the conference seems on the rise again, it seems like he'll really struggle.

Time to start thinking about Randy Bennett, Danny Manning, Gregg Marshall (yah right, dreaming!), Archie Miller (no way, but you've got to call), or whoever.

It's apples and oranges comparing ASU Basketball now to UofA Basketball pre-Lute. That's not to suggest ASU can't get a guy and win games but people have to care about winning and everything that comes with it ($$$) first. There's just not that many big donors for ASU Basketball and the football guys are being leaned on for the new stadium.

I don't care who they go with, but the Herb era needs to end. He neither brings interest or success to the program. Worst case, the new coach fares no better, but at least you're taking a chance.

Everyone knows what Herb brings to the table, and it isn't good enough. It's just sad we'll need to sit through the dreck of next year to get him fired. Time to try something different.

Ugly 3 pt attempt at the end = win for them.

That was tough. If only that had ball had hit just a bit of the rim and bounced up. :(

There was a similar play moments earlier when Texas cleaned up an airball, too.

Nice effort by the Sun Devils against Texas. To be honest, they played better than I expected and worthy of winning. I think Jordan Bachynski has increased his value in the NBA draft.

ASU has a weird situation in that they clearly have good coaches, but they can't recruit enough talent to get over the hump and when they do, like everyone else, it's tough to keep them around.

I did have to snicker when the announcer was saying Carson was an example of the high character kids Herb likes to recruit. He's not a "bad" kid but he sat out his freshman year over grades and the claim was it was due to the school he took online courses at refusing to sign off on them because they had computer evidence that he was logged in doing his online classes when he was actually overseas playing in all star games as part of a national team. That is not just the same days, the times he was logged in doing "work" , he was actually on the court playing so clearly someone else had logged in and done the work.

Then he had the situation where he was advertising his shoes on twitter for sale(ala Dominic Artis). Again not a bad kid but of all the kids on the team to single out he picked him, he clearly picked him because he's a good player and he had no idea about that other stuff.
