That's an odd list, IMO.

No Butch Cassidy? No Outlaw Jose Wales?

Here's a western that I'd put on the list that many might not think of: Silverado.

I love Silverado and the other two you mentioned. But the ones on their list are pretty darn good. Hard to object IMO.

Yeah, that's certainly not a bad list at all. It would be hard to figure out which to remove in favor of Butch Cassidy/Josey Wales/Good, Bad, Ugly.

High Noon
Gunfighter's Moon

Close calls: Once Upon A Time In The West & The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

This is something I would have to research even for my own personal opinion. Westerns and martial arts films were done way better back then with out all the tools available today as far as my taste goes.
Like good jokes, I sometimes forget some good ones, but then something or some one will remind me.
Music too.
Monster/zombie movies as well, whats this world coming to?

Weird list.

How so? It has Unforgiven, Searchers, Stagecoach, Shane, The Wild Bunch. Even My Darling Clementine is a great western. Maybe McCabe and Mrs. Miller and Open Range are the oddest inclusions, but Open Range is actually a very good movie (I haven't seen McCabe).

It's arguable that 8 of those 10 films definitely deserve to be on the list.

McCabe and Mrs. Miller? In a top 10 list? Dances With Wolves is very overrated. Assassination of Jesse James is epically boring.

I liked it. I watched it at home over about 4 nights. :) Never saw Scarecrow and Mrs. King.

Of the ones I've seen, I'd leave off tAoJJ, Dances w Wolves.

I think it's odd that Butch Cassidy isn't on there because it's far and away my #1, and I think i've seen it on more than one all-time movie lists (where as most of these westerns don't even sniff those lists). So I don't see the logic in placing it as an all-time great but not even in the top-10 of it's own genre.

My Top 10 would probably be something like this, in no particular order:

The Outlaw Josey Wales
Unforgiven
The Magnificent Seven
High Noon
Blazing Saddles
The Searchers
Once Upon A Time In The West
Open Range
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Red River

No Hondo?

Dances With Wolves should definitely be on the list. Absolutely, no questions asked.

Hondo's a great movie, but it was actually filmed for 3D, and it takes something away from the film. I'm not a fan of 3D gimmicks.

Holy moly. If you asked me if they had 3D technology back in 1953 I would have said NO FREAKING WAY!
