Would you consider a basic banner across the top of the message board pages to make some extra money?

I'm thinking about a banner network for Arizona sites and would pay set rates (something small like $10/month). The idea is to build up a big base of Arizona advertisers and build the rate from $10/month slowly up to about $100 a month. It's not much, but it could pay the hosting costs.

Most pay-per-click places either will not allow ads on message boards or pay so little ($2/month), that they are not worth it.

Actually I can't tell if the site is so overloaded that the email alerts are running way behind or my mail server is gasping for air and not delivering them to my mailbox...
