Best game of my lifetime and it was broadcast to the entire nation. I still remember it clearly.

As a Notre Domer, I disliked both teams and watched enthralled, pulling for the Sooners. If I recall correctly, it was the last conference game of the year, #1 against #2 (or #3, can't remember) for the Big 8 title.

Both unbelievable offenses beat great opposing defenses most of the day. Huge clutch play after huge clutch play.

No regular season game since, in any conference, in my opinion, has come close to matching that one. With so much on the line, with so much hype, the actual game quality and drama exceeded what anyone could have hoped for.

1985 Alabama Auburn. Lead changed 4 times in the 4th quarter. Bo Jackson going off for like 230 yards. Bama wins with a Van Tiffin field goal. Hard ass Ray Perkins carries Tiffin off the field and is heard over a TV mic, "I love you Van Tiffin!"

Of course, it's impossible the explain the emotions in this game if you're not from the state of Alabama. I know I passed out two or three times.

The best game I ever saw was the 1946 game between Army and Notre Dame. Army had come off of two undefeated seasons in 1944 and 1945 with Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis the Touchdown Twins. In 1946 Notre Dame dethroned Army with a tie game. I think the entire nation was tuned into this game one way or the other. Davis who only weighed 172 lb. could run the 100 yards in full uniform in under 10 seconds. Blanchard who many think of as a big man actually only weighed 205 lb. and they were featured on the front cover of Life. The war time Army teams were something to see as was Navy. Army defeated Navy one year for the national championship to complete an undefeated year. Glenn Davis also lettered in baseball, track, football and one other sport. Branch Rickey said Davis would command at least a $75,000 bonus if he were to go into baseball. As I recall I think Davis married Shirley Temple?

Side Bar: During the war years you graduated from West Point and Navy in three years instead of four. Blanchard had an injured knee late in his career after which he was never the same.

I think it was 1969 or 1970. Sitting in my Notre Dame dorm room, huge underdog Auburn blocks two punts in the 4th quarter, both for scores, against hated Alabama to knock Bear Bryant's coon hat in the dirt.

Loved it.

I kinda think the Jake Plummer Rose Bowl was one of the best. Except for the last drive of the game.

I don't believe Glenn Davis was ever married to her. As I remember, he dated, but I don't believe married Elizabeth Taylor.
