I don't know if they've begun contract negotiations yet or not. I am on record, however, with the opinion that these contracts should go more smoothly given the fact that they got the injury waiver issue settled. If you recall from Bryant last year, things were so bad, as a result of the waiver, that it really set back the talsk on his contract.

I think all first round negotiations, not just ours, would go a heck of a lot smoother if we started EARLY, instead of waiting until mid-june to july to even START. But that's just me. I guess it makes too much sense to do that.

It's too soon to whine. Draft choice signings finally staarted two days ago. Jags and Steelers have each signed two picks. No one else has done squat.

Only first rounder signed is Carson Palmer.

While slotting won't be an end-all and be-all, it will be a consideration. Graves will want to get a better sense of what other teams are paying above and below the Johnson and Pace spots.

That may take a little more time.

I realize the slotting issue. I was just wondering if the feeling out process has even started. I suppose it has with the ironing out of the waiver clause. I'm not expecting any news until right around the start of training camp, just trying to get some sort of news. Any news.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not whining about picks not being signed yet. I just don't know why all NFL teams, not just the Cards, wait so long to even begin negotiations, especially with first rounders. It makes zero sense. The slotting would fall into place when the early first round teams start signing their guys.

With the fact that the Cards decided to change their injury waiver stance, does this mean they are admitting guilt in causing Bryant to miss camp last year and have such a poor year due to the lack of time? I think it does. May make Bryant feel a little more justified. IMO

Your right stout. It's really not that hard. Every spot is ALREADY slotted. Typically, the contract will be about 2% more than the year before. In the overall scheme of things, it gets down to pinching pennies. The agents don't want their guys to get a contract with 10K less bonus than the guy behind theirs got, and the teams don't want to pay anymore than they have to and set that precedent.

Really, negotiating these deals is a stupid waste of time that doesn't benefit the game or these players. The parameters should be set in stone every year as part of the salary cap, much like the NBA. The only ones who benefit from this system are the agents, and they seem to have more power in the NFL than any other league.
