See the Stars above Germany's logo? They have a meaning.

You can't go against Germany here, it would be an upset of epic proportions. 2nd most successful World Cup nation ever. Same per game averages as Brazil actually on a point based table ranking.
If they lose before the quarter finals heads will roll.

Brazil played 2 more World Cups than Germany due to WWII.

Zoiks, this is a killer! I kept thinking about how we outplayed Germany in the '02 Cup, but that really isn't relevant in 2010. I hate to do it, but I picked zee Germans.

I went with the upset.

Historically, Germany's record doesn't matter just like the USA's doesn't matter. The Germans aren't as strong as in recent years. Now, they are probably still better than the US, but if the Americans make it out of their group comfortably, you gotta think they'll have a lot of confidence going into this game. If they bring their A game like they did in the Confederations Cup, this is going to be a terrific match.

How is Germany not as strong as in recent years??

We are the European Cup runner ups and were probably the better team in the final. We have the best youth players in the world at the moment too.

Our young guys might not be mature enough to take on a big name team in a pressure situation but the USA team isn't that kind of team. It would be one of the 3 biggest upsets in World Cup history.

Uh huh. We all get it, Germany is the best team in the history of the world. You don't have to keep repeating it ad nauseum all the time.

Naw it is just hilarious what kind of homers you guys are about the US soccer team.

Go on and vote for the US team, we all know it isn't going to happen though. None of your players would even make a 50-player roster for Germany. That is the reality.

Realistically the odds of Matt Leinart leading the Cards to the Superbowl win this season are not much lower than the US team eliminating Germany in the World Cup.

Germany IS the best team in the world historically they are tied with Brazil in terms of average wins at World Cups. Brazil has one more title, Germany has more final appearances I believe. They have the same point average if you compute a league table over all world cups. Germany played less world cups than Brazil but played the same amount of games.

After Brazil and Germany there is a huge drop-off until Italy.

Go and shove that one up your German ass.

The US outplayed Germany in 2002 and were unlucky not to progress. Why is it so out of the question it could happen again?

As am I. But like you, I'm a homer... It'll be tough, but like I said, if the team plays like they did in the Confederations Cup, they can beat Germany. Partly based on skill, but also based on the Germans not taking the Americans seriously. That's a given. Hell, as slinslin has proven, Germany homers don't take American FANS seriously, let alone their team.
