Algeria
Why they move on: Algeria finished 4th in the competitive African Cup of Nations.

Slovenia
Why they move on:Novakovic provides a formidable air attack. The 6'4 FWD has logged in 51 goals since 2006 for Koln. If either USA/ENG doesn't advance, it will be because of Slovenia.
Why they wont: Very competitive favorites of Eng/USA.

Perhaps the poll should read-- Who besides England will advance out of the group?

US to top the group, England to finish second. I truly believe the US can start the WC with another Portugal performance. Algeria are nothing the US can't handle. Slovenia won't upset the apple cart at the big tournament. They are just happy to be going at all.

If we advance, you have to streak naked from Arizona to Pennsylvania. If we don't advance, I'll send you a bottle of Quaker Steak wing sauce. Deal? :)
Ah ha!! Not very confident are you?

I expect the make it or break it game for the US will be against Slovenia.
Algeria imo is outclassed and England will almost certainly progress but Slovenia has been playing very well and are a threat despite their low position in the Fifa World Rankings.

England and Algeria

*snapsfingers* That's right. I knew there was someone on this board that had a mindless disdain for the US, disregarding all reason. It was Slinslin! You were the one trying to extoll the virtues of Algeria, right?

Man, it'll be disappointing for you to see your hated enemy the U.S. advance, and to see Germany crash and burn ;)

To be fair i'm saying a lot worse in my head!

Algeria didn't look like much against Eygpt, a team the US handled easily.

The US have their toughest game first as well, get that one out the way (which I think we'll win anyway) and its easier from then on.

Exactly! It's hilarious that anyone who chooses Algeria looks at that win they eked out against Egypt to be the ONLY reason they advance and the US doesn't. Egypt looked better against us in the Confederations Cup than they did in that game and we beat them more convincingly.

Slin has always had anti-US bias in ANY conversation about football.

Slinslin has hated the U.S. squad for a long time and takes every opportunity to bash them and pick against them. When the groups were announced he did everything but slobber all over the Algerian squad, saying they were sooo superior to the U.S. team. Anyone thinking Algeria is a favorite in that game either doesn't know diddly about soccer, or has an agenda. Slinslin definitely has an anti-U.S. soccer agenda. I'm not sure why.
