That unraveled pretty fast...

Whatever the coaches/pitchers are doing before games on the backside of the order, they need to do the opposite. This happens way too often. I'd look at the scouting to see if it's either too much or too little. I don't think Collmenter was missing that badly. The Dodgers seemed to know exactly how to handle him at the start of the game.

I doubt there's much help available during this odd "trade with waivers" period, but this Dbacks bench is hideously shallow.

There was just too much to fix. They certainly didn't put this team together expecting to contend. I'm sure they would have put more thought and money into a bat off the bench if they could have anticipated this, but they started the season with 2 everyday starters they probably knew won't be on the roster next year.

C'mon man... consider where this team has been the past 2 years. To be 1/2 game out on August 6th is nothing short of miraculous.

As for tonight - Collmenter is not a major league starter. He's just not. He doesn't have a legit out pitch - other than his change-up which it now seems opponents are totally clued into.
Our batters also seem to have lost the patience they displayed on the recent road trip. Particularly Upton who seemed to have swung at a number of pitches out of the strike zone...

I was thinking it was just a case of Billingsley being exceptional.

Talk to me tomorrow night when the D-Backs face off against a 21-year-old AA emergency call-up.

Need to beat that kid... and bad!! As for Billingsley - he's so damn good. Actually, when watching the Dodgers entire pitching staff in action, it's hard to imagine why they've been so bad this year. They are loaded with good, and in a few cases, great pitching...

Got a text in the 8th inning from a friend that said I was on TV. Got home watched the game on DVR and sure enough, Chris Youngs at bat in the 8th there I am. 2001 purple hat and all. Solid.

Sucks we lost, boys fought hard tonight, met some cool Dodgers fans, I know, oxymoron, but it happened.

5 innings, 7Ks, 2 runs.

A few people need to be hanging their heads in shame tonight.

Offense was flat out offensive tonight. A rookie pitcher out pitched us flat out. Sucks when the team has no tape on a guy.

It sucks when you continue to swing at pitches thrown way out of the strike zone. It sucks when you have a guy like Collmenter as starter when he should be at the end of the bullpen.

Its great that they have played the way they have, however I think that's about to end.

I don't think so. If the offense is based on Upton, there are going to be up's and down's. Like his swinging wildly at pitches way outside the strike zone.

It has proven to be part of the package. As soon as his hot spell ends, it is followed by incidents showing lack of discipline.

His recent temper tantrum in the dugout makes it clear that his learning curve is a road sometimes smooth and sometimes lined with potholes.

In addition to Chris Young's mediocre performance (no long balls in over a month of batting cleanup), I think he is a bad influence on his buddy Upton.

I'll bet you that if Young is traded, after a period of adjustment, Upton will lose a lot of his bad habits. They seem to feed off each other, and not in a good way.

You may be right but with 2 gaping holes in our lineup, its going to be hard for them to stay where their at. Johnson and Young have to moved into different positions in the lineup. My son thought to move Roberts into the 4 spot, I don't think that would work.

That's the problem they have no #2 or #4 hitters.

Yup... Alas, this is what we get when we have only one legit major league offensive threat in the lineup (Upton). Goldy is showing me some promise. Roberts, Willie and Parra are nice players who will scratch and claw, but never become a serious, consistent threat. Johnson is absolutely killing us. Same for CY. And Miggy is now slumping.
Honestly, it's really what we've had all year. It's only when Upton goes nuts that we are able to put some wins together. Or, Kennedy and Hudson and sometimes Saunders go all Cy Young on us.

We desperately need to make some moves next season. I don't think we can trade CY without kicking in a few million - but if that's what we have to do to move him, I say do it! Not sure what to do about Johnson and I don't know what we have down on the farm at 2b?
Hopefully, Drew can come back and get his offensive game up to where it should be, which for him would be a minimum .280 average, with 15-20 HR's and 85-90 RBI's.
We still need to find a legit, everyday 3b. Goldy is our guy at First. Miggy can hold down the catcher spot. Parra should be playing everyday in Left until such time he shows that he can't handle that role...

Gonna be very tough to push the Giants the rest of the way if Upton falls back to normalcy... we're gonna need to be all-world just to keep pace.

Kennedy must give up more 0-2 and 1-2 home runs that any pitcher in baseball.
It's like guys are taking 2 strikes so they'll get that fat fastball down the middle of the plate.

Or not. Entering today he has given up two homers on 0-2 counts and two homers on 1-2 counts.

Glad the losing streak was snapped, but pissed we lost the season series to the Dodgers at home. At least we're still only 1/2 game back.

Every position player needs to find a slumpbuster tonight. Anything less than 3 of 4 against the AAAstros is unacceptable.

D-backs are 3-3 against the Dodgers at home.

And there's still three more games to play at the end of the year.

I'll be at the Wednesday game to watch Owings take over in the 4th. At some point you have to put Collmenter in the pen! What are we getting out of having Collmenter in the starting lineup over Owings?
