I counted at least 27 movies due out this year that are either sequels or remakes. The only one's I give a pass to are the Harry Potter and Twilight movies because they are continuations. There is no originality anymore. I mean a 3rd incarnation of The Thing?

You mean it's not the Ben Grimm story? Dang, I was looking forward to it. The first Thing was decent but I loved the Carpenter remake. You can't improve on Kurt Russell so why bother trying.

Then don't go see it. The only way for people to not make these crappy remakes is to not have crappy remakes make money. Unfortunately, they do because a majority of the movie-going public are sheep.

i don't go see these movies.

i am getting REALLY sick of the 3D craze tho... movie tickets are ridiculously high in LA as it is and its getting to the point that you can't go see a big movie on a good size screen unless it's in 3D, which a) is even MORE expensive and b) can be really annoying if not done right.

i know it's making money for the studios hand over fist, but man, i hope the craze dies soon. i almost vomitted today when i read michael mann wondering what the medium could do for a serious drama... uh, how about... NOTHING.

Who's playing Snake? The whiny guy that plays Sid the accountant on the first year of Wise Guy could handle the missing president's role but again, nobody is going to improve on Kurt Russell.

it was going to be Gerard Butler but that was years ago and he's moved on... but that gives you a little insight as to who they're looking at.

in other news, Colin Ferrel has been tapped to play Douglas Quaid in the Total Recall remake. ugh.

I'm with you on the 3d thing. Back in the 80's I saw the Friday the 13th in 3D, Jaws 3, and Amityville 3 in 3D as well as a movie called Coming at You. The last one was the best 3D of the bunch. The other were hokey and boring really. Fast forward to now and I saw the Christmas Carol one last year(Jim Carey) and Toy Story 3. Neither were worth paying the extra to see in 3D. Waste of money. Face it though, the movie business was dying and this was a way to entice people back into the theater but now with the advent of 3D TV's and such, it's going to take a hit again.

Beyond the sun.
Maybe they should stop trying to make an "Action/Chick-Flick".

Ok, it worked once... but has failed every other time.

FEBRUARY
11- Just Go With It

OMG this looks awful! In the trailer they show Adam Sandler fall and get a board in the crotch. Really? This is nothing but Sandler cashing a paycheck.

How does Jennifer Aniston keep getting film roles? Terrible.

That would make a good thread.

All time worst remake and sequel combinations.

IF, IF, you are right and it's horrid, this makes the entire series a contender.

I like escape from New York a lot, but it's awful itself.

Throw in one of the worst sequels in mankinds history, Escape from LA, then top that off with a putrid remake and you have a complete set, the trifecta, very hard to achieve.
