WAsn't this one of the things that USC QBs had going against them? They were practically at the pinnacle of the QB spot by playing for the USC Trojans in southern Cali. USC QBs are superstars there, and live the celebrity lifestyle. When they get to the NFL what left do they have to prove?
That's basically a summerized article that I read about Lienart a couple months back.
Side note... Manziel = Tebow?
The big difference is that USC QB's are surrounded by amazingly elite talent that make them appear better than they are. They basically are playing with the best of the best California prospects. Do you really think they lose many recruits to UCLA, Stanford, Cal, or the rest of the Pac 12? They practically get to first pick of the home-grown talent. Then they get to match up with other Pac-12 teams, where defense is sometimes optional.
In Texas, A&M has to compete for local recruits with UT, Tech, Baylor, and invading SEC recruiters. So I think he doesn't have as elite pieces around him that the USC guys do. Then he has to take those pieces against the best defenses in the country, week in and week out.
I'm saying all this to give him the benefit of the doubt, not because I feel exactly passionate about him, but because he excels against the best competition college football has to offer. He is the most popular QB, at any level, in a state where football is a religion. Makes him an easy target for haters.
