100% has never happen. some voters don't think players should be first ballot electees, for whatever stupid reason.

Maddux, Randy, Mantle, Mays, DiMaggio... none of those guys were unanimous. Frankly I'm surprised Griffey came as close to 100% as he did. Tim Raines, arguably the greatest lead-off hitter in baseball history still isn't in. Baseball writers are dopes.

I don't think it is as much that they don't think they should be first ballot as much as it is that they don't think they should be unanimous. Their line of thought is that if the all time greats (Ruth, Mantle, DiMaggio etc.) weren't unanimous then nobody should.

I am not surprised that Piazza is going in as a Met. He had 8 full seasons with them as opposed to 5 with the Dodgers.

But I am disappointed (from a baseball point of view) that he isn't honoring the man, Tommy LaSorda, and team who brought him from obscurity to stardom.

The players don't pick what hat goes on their plaque. Andre Dawson went in as an Expo despite loud complaints that he wanted to go in as a Cub.
