When Palmer and fitz leave, this offense is being built around DJ already with great run blockers and elite RB along with an elite Defense.

projected in rounds 3 and 4:

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Operates with adequate body control at the point of attack and in space. Efficient in his movement. Climbs to the second level and is patient before engaging. Has power in his push and can be an effective drive blocker in the running game. Technician who plays with good fundamentals to counter his athletic limitations. Very good core strength with an ability to anchor after an early bull rush. Can lock down pass rushers with his grip strength.
WEAKNESSES
Has some quickness limitations that will likely necessitate a move to the right side. Has short arms which affects his ability to re-direct pass rushers around the pocket once they get to his edge. Plays with relatively heavy feet and will struggle to mirror in space. Reach blocks and shutting down stunts will be challenging. Simply doesn't have enough gain in his kick slide to handle edge speed. Had trouble shutting down tackle/end twists.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 3-4
BOTTOM LINE
Three-year starter with experience at both tackle positions, Holden's lack of speed to the edge in his kick slides makes a career at the left tackle spot unlikely. He has good power as a drive blocker and should be a natural fit on the right side. Offensive line coaches will fret over his short arms, but he's a tough guy, with core strength and plus technique who can win a spot on a roster.

I like the youth that we are building along the 0 line. The guard and the tackle will have a year of training and be ready to go.

#131 Overall on Scouts Inc. Rated 66

Overall Football Traits
Production 2
Height-Weight-Speed 3
Durability 1
Intangibles 1

1 = Exceptional 2 = Above average 3 = Average 4 = Below average 5 = Marginal

Offensive Tackle Specific Traits

Pass Protection 2
Taller OT that sets quickly and gets quality depth with initial kick step. Able to ride speed rushers past the pocket despite lack of ideal length for an OT prospects (33 ¼ '). Quick hands and works to gain inside hand placement.Tendency to overset and can be susceptible to effective inside change up moves. Quality mirror skills but shows some stiffness when he is forced to quickly redirect when caught out position. Will constantly battle pad level in his sets due to his height and can struggle to drop his anchor against more powerful rushers at times. Played well vs Tennessee (Derek Barnett) and Florida this past season.

Run Blocking 3 Not a road grader but an effective positional blocker. Flashes adequate inline power when he is playing with leverage. Pad level has a tendency to rise upon contact and fail to tape into his power source to get movement. However, he moves his feet to sustain and has enough size and strength in his upper body (23 reps on bench test) to cover up defenders and open up creases. Good feel for angles working to the second level. Shows a little bit of stiffness adjusting on the move to cover up targets in space.

Awareness 2 Three year starter who clearly puts in the time in the film room. Good recognition of fronts to pick up tendencies for pressures from the second and third level. Occasionally will be a quarter count late passing off rushers with DL stunts. Locates and identifies targets well at the second level.

Toughness 3 Not a trained killer but flashes an edge. Fights to sustain blocks. Will finish when provided the opportunity.

1 = Exceptional 2 = Above average 3 = Average 4 = Below average 5 = Marginal

Status Report

Holden is a 3 year starter appearing in 48 career games with 32 starts. He is a taller OT prospect with shorter arms (33 ¼') but has quick feet and good hands that allow him to overcome his lack of ideal length. Quality positional blocker in the run game. Will constantly battle pad level due to height and can continue to improve strength in his core and lower body. Late add on at the Senior Bowl and played well. Holden projects as an early day 3 pick that has a chance to add depth and potentially develop into a starter ideally for a heavy zone blocking scheme. March 24, 2017

Then why did they trade for Ulrick John and draft Toner last year? 5th seems to be their stinker round.

We had no depth last year and took a ton of injuries there. That led to Palmer having a terrible season.

There were better linemen to me still on the board rated higher. This is the first pick I don't really care for. I will watch some film on him. Maybe he's better than what I'm reading about

Dysert to Jaron Brown is gonna be a sick connection in 2018

I wasnt a fan of more than 2 QBs in this draft, have no problem with passing on them. Draft one next year or get a FA like Glennon, he will be available again after this year after chicago traded their draft away to take a QB.

we still have a draft to upgrade in 2018
arians also said some years a go, a qb has to play to learn
they just threw some smoke out there showing interests at this qb class

Holden's a good value pick at #157. His slow 40 (5.47) and shorter than ideal arms (33") is probably the reason why he slid a little. Was projected as an early 4th round pick. He is strictly a RT.

As others have questioned, I do not see how he makes the 53 man roster this year. Wetzel will be the swing tackle. Plus, the coaches are still high on Ulrich John and Givens Price.

Thus...these days 5th round picks can be considered PS picks, as most teams will only keep 9 OL.

What this pick makes me wonder is whether they are thinking of trading Jared Veldheer. It wouldn't seem likely, but with such a weak draft for offensive tackles, the demand is high. As I proposed a few months ago, how about Veldheer to the Giants for DRC? Both have $8M cap figures...so that would be a fit on the cap.

We didn't trade for John, we signed him off a practice squad when our extraordinarily slim depth was made even slimmer by injuries. Without Watford anymore, we were pretty shallow.

Of course, if I were a GM, I would draft two offensive linemen every year.

speed for an offesnive lineman doesnt have much importance but 547 is very slow. left tackle need a bit of speed to handle speed rusher
