All this pontificating over a 4.76 40 yards dash. As I said earlier give me a guy with great instincts that runs 4.7 over a guy that doesn't and runs 4.4 any day.

Those instincts and decisiveness give the guy at LEAST a 0.5 seconds advantage.

No backer runs 40 seconds in a straight line anyway and the difference between a 4.76 and a 4.6 over 20 yards it's about 2 inches.

We will see if he does have the instincts or not, but his athleticism is more than fine.

You know, there are people here been saying "Why do we always draft the athletic guys and try change their position. It never works. Why can't we just draft guys who are good at that position".

And some of those same people have a huge ***** over Isaiah Simmons who has all the athleticism and 120 snaps at linebacker at #8, and at the same time are moaning about a guy that has thousands of snaps at LB and led college in tackles being taken at 202. Because he doesn't run sub 4.7. Irony.

Prediction. Simmons never plays linebacker but is an elite strong safety and Weaver starts at LB within 2 years.

Lack of top end straight line speed in shorts isn't the same as lack of athleticism

Yes they can.

I was dominant in amateur rugby. Played the same way too. I was slow, like draw attention to myself slow, but could run for miles and was really smart and instinctive. I was 5 steps ahead of everyone and in better shape.

Tried to play to semi-pro, and I was either too slow or too small to find a place on the field.

When you go up a level, sometimes the turtle becomes too slow.

Is he fast enough? Only 1 way to find out. I had zero issue with him seeing the field as a 2 down ILBer, but he has to be able to keep up with the speed.

I think he is a tremendous player to find in the 6th round.

Guys in the 6th and 7th round are either:
1) significant injury history
2) looks like Tarzan...
3) productive but bad workouts

IMO the guys from that group that generally end up better than you think are group #3.

I think at worst with his demeanor, we are looking at a run down backer and special teamer. Good 6th round pick.

I totally get what you're saying about his coverage skills, we may get burned when he's in there playing ILB because of that? We may not? He hasn't played a down for us yet, preseason games will tell the tale on his coverage skills, if there is even a preseason? Watching his film, there's absolutely no reason he can't play ST & be damn good at it. Plus his instincts should make him a backup ILB candidate on running downs. Probably better option than Joe Walker lol. Herm Edwards raved about him yesterday on 98.7, he said this kid just knew where to be, which hole or gap to shoot & made plays. Said he has great instincts. I'll take that over a kid that runs a 4.4 & is dumber than a box of $2 hammers lol.

He seems to have great instinct on where the ball is and where it is going. I like the pick and would like to see how he does on the field in the NFL. Combine numbers are an indication only. Can you think of other players would did not run well while being timed yet appeared to be all over the field and in the right place at the right time? Instinct, game speed, hustle. They go a long way.

Exactly, this is all info without correlating content. Example being, kid runs a 4.5 but it comes out to a 4.7 because he cannot turn his hips in time in a actual game. In reality, this is a sport, and all the overweight nerds playing money ball can trump their horn all they want playing with numbers but if a guy on tape in a legit college division is productive it says a lot... I want to see the stat negative people bring up plays on tape rather than take up the lazy number conjecture to prove their point
