The Los Angeles Rams made a curious pick in the fifth round with the selection of Ohio State defensive tackle Ty Hamilton. He should begin as a backup in a relatively deep unit, but one that lacks quality after Kobie Turner and Poona Ford.
As such, experts weren't terribly excited about the pick. While Hamilton played on an experienced and well-drafted defensive line, he clearly was at the lower end of the spectrum for that group, as evidenced by his fifth-round selection.
While Hamilton wasn't a home run selection, experts didn't think it was a busted pick, either.

Here are some expert grades on Hamilton going to the Rams:
USA Today's Ayrton Ostly: B+
"Hamilton offers good size and block shedding prowess against the run and made a living eating up blockers for the Buckeyes. In Los Angeles, he won't be asked to take on a heavy workload and should be a good, young piece in the rotation with potential down the line as the Rams' young defenders start to come up for second contracts."
CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso: B-
"One of the unsung heroes up front for Ohio State during national title run. NT type who can get across the line of scrimmage thanks to quality athleticism for his size. Wants to bully interior blockers with power and can eat doubles for breakfast. Length deficiency is an issue when trying to disengage and doesn't have pass-rush moves ready to go. Not dissimilar from Tyler Davis pick a few years ago."
Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski: C+
"Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske are two-thirds of an impressive Los Angeles Rams starting defensive line. Tyler Davis is a smaller option working over the center. Yet the Rams replicated that option with Ohio State’s Tyler Hamilton. Clearly, the team has a type. Furthermore, both of those latter names provide flexibility to play multiple techniques along the front."
Pro Football Focus: B+
"The fourth member of Ohio State’s championship defensive line to be selected, Ty Hamilton didn't grade on the level of his counterparts. However, he is one of the best tacklers at the defensive tackle position, missing only 7% of his tackles this past season."
