The 2025 NFL draft opened with fairly obvious expectations for the New York Giants, who held the No. 3 overall pick.
True to those expectations, the Giants selected Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter with their first pick but then things became far less certain. Rumors swirled that general manager Joe Schoen would trade back up into the first round for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.
What would such a trade cost? How would it impact the remainder of the team's draft?
Over the next three days, all of those questions will be answered. And as they are, Giants Wire will provide instant analysis below.
Abdul Carter was considered an elite prospect and arguably the best player in the draft (some said Travis Hunter). He brings the Giants "positional flexibility," as head coach Brian Daboll says, and can excel with his hand in the dirt and as an off-ball linebacker.
Carter's best asset is his get-off burst, which sets him apart from the rest and puts him in a position to win on every snap. He does need to bulk up and polish some of his game, but he's a potential Day 1 starter if the Giants desire. At worst, he'll serve as an equal-share rotational piece with Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns.
Most importantly, Carter provides the Giants with a hard-working, high-energy player that gives their defense an identity. He's justifiably compared to Micah Parsons, another elite Penn State edge rusher and should be a fixture in the NFC East for the foreseeable future.
