Rhian Brewster's goal against Sheffield Wednesday was his third of the season for Sheffield United [Rex Features]

Sheffield United's Steel City derby match-winner Rhian Brewster hopes his decisive strike has now fully endeared himself to Blades fans.

The forward's second-half effort was enough to beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 and give the Blades a league double over their rivals for the first time since 2005-06.

"It feels a bit surreal to be honest - with the injuries and stuff I've been through, coming from Liverpool I haven't done what I wanted to, like score lots of goals," Brewster told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I hope this makes the fans still believe in me and show I'm still willing to push, still willing to fight and it feels amazing."

The 24-year-old has scored just seven league goals in 99 appearances, 58 of them as a substitute, since moving to Bramall Lane from Liverpool for £23.5m in 2020.

"I actually got cramp as I was about to put it in the back of the net but that wasn't stopping me and I just had to make sure it went in and thankfully it did," he added.

"It was like time stopped for a minute when the ball came over and I thought 'yes' and put it in the back of the net."
