Kay Adams' description of Justin Reid is exactly what the New Orleans Saints need as they move into a new era. Beyond just moving into the Kellen Moore era, the Saints are moving into a transitional period where they're going to have to part ways with veteran players soon, most prominently Demario Davis, Tyrann Mathieu and Cameron Jordan. Those types of moves also require for new leaders to step up as the old guard hangs it up.

Sometimes the transfer of power is seamless like the move from Drew Brees to Davis giving pregame speeches. That transfer of the ritual represented a larger transition in team leadership. Davis became the heart and soul of the team. Fast forward four seasons and Davis is going to have hand off leadership soon.

The shift may not be drastic or as up front as who gives pregame speeches, but when Adams calls Reid "a world class tone-setter" that should get fans excited. There's going to need to be someone who is the voice in the secondary, someone who calls the defense together on the sidelines. As Mathieu, Davis and Jordan inevitably call it a career soon, Reid should naturally take on some of that responsibility.

Did the Saints need help at safety? Yes, and Reid provides that. The intangible of leadership is something that the Saints were going to have to discover moving forward. Having that guy in the locker room before the other leaders phase out should make for another seamless transition.

Saints fans - you're getting a world class tone-setter. Can't wait! https://t.co/eYlfzr8g00
