I can't remember where i read it but they said the electronic timer was malfunctioning at the combine. In effect, the start of the 40 was done by hand but the finish was done electronically . Anyway, that seems to be at least one reason why the 40 times were "different" than the previuos years.

The bad 40 times make it only more likely that Moreno or Wells are there when we pick.

I would assume the pro days for the players becomes more important with this information

They were having some trouble with the finish line but I believe that the hand start and the electronic finish are the way they've always done it.

Is there any particular reason for doing so? Does is allow for comparisons to past performances that previously utilized hand timings thus calculated some human error into the times?

What I found frustrating was there was no clock at the bottom of the screen on NFL network.

I was wondering if the NFL network made a decision to not show it, and I was wondering what reason they had for feeling it would be a good idea.

I guess that explains it. (probably)

Still though, you'd think they could of come up with something. It was spread over a few days they would fix it.

But I guess that would taint the results. As you might have DB's running as fast as LB's or something to that degree. Once the first set ran without it, maybe all of them had to for consistency and fairness.

At least I can probably hope for it to return next season.
