49ers' Kaepernick could be Broncos-bound - if he agrees to new deal

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-s...und---if-he-agrees-to-new-deal-002044373.html

As of this moment, the Denver Broncos have one quarterback on their roster with playoff experience in Mark Sanchez, but soon they could have a second: Colin Kaepernick.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday night that the San Francisco 49ers and Broncos have the parameters of a deal in principle in place that would send Kaepernick to Denver, but it is contingent on Kaepernick agree to a contract restructuring.

However, Schefter reported, the two sides are not close to an agreement. They will continue to talk and come to a common ground.

Kapernick's $11.9 million base salary for 2016 became guaranteed on Thursday; that same day, Kaepernick met with Broncos general mananger John Elway at his home, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. It was at least the second time the two have met in recent weeks; Kaepernick is rehabbing three injuries in Vail, Colo. this offseason

The meetings were possible because San Francisco has given Kaepernick and his agents permission to seek a trade.

49ers have the 7th pick in the 1st rd and a ton of picks so I'm guessing they are picking one of Wentz or Goff. At least I hope so because I don't see either as elite franchise QB's.

Denver has no cap space left. They need Kaepernick to agree to restructure his deal and cut somebody (i.e. the often injured Ryan Clady) to make the trade happen.

Elway has better choices, but is choosing Kaep?
Kaep is in SF and not the starter, but is playing hardball over money about going to the defending champions?
SF has Krappy Kaep as a dead weight, and is being offered a draft pick for KRAEP but it too is playing hardball?

Also the money situation can be solved by either SF or Kaep or a combination. SF can help pay, or Kaep could outright take a cut. Or both can eat some of it. Kaep can take say a 2.45 million cut, and SF can eat 2.45 million of the salary. There's the difference.

Kaep's only shot, as almost impossible as it is, to turn back into an NFL starter worth starting, is if he has everything just about perfect around him. Well the Broncos are that opportunity. He might screw this up.

Hell I hope they do. 49ers don't deserve to be bailed out, neither does Kaep. I could care less about the Broncos, and they really aren't any worse off with Sanchez as compared to Kaep. They both suck. I would much rather have Kaep on SF.

If Kaep goes to Denver, remember they'll likely have to cut Ryan Clady, and we have Mathis now. Plus the chop block rule change is going to hamper zone blocking schemes.

Also their defense, while still very good, has taken some significant hits. They likely take a step or two back. Unlike last year, the Broncos are going to need to score 30+ a few times this year.

The idea that all any QB has to do is be better then a broken down Manning is quite a fallacy, especially since that broken down QB had the best QB mind probably ever.

Kaep in Denver is really his only shot. He can run bootlegs alot more effectively then he can Chip Kelly's offense. Kaep is a one read guy. His timing goes off when you throw more things into the mix. That makes his accuracy off. Kelly's offense is all about making quick, correct reads to determine what play you are going to do. That's just not in Kaep's wheelhouse based on his past.

Running boots and isolating on 1 or 2 guys away from action and having a very obvious option to run or not is what Kaep can do. I doubt they can constantly do that effectively, but that puts Kaep into the best chance to succeed.

I doubt he does, but if there is a chance, Denver is it.

Amazing that the 49ers and Kaep might screw this up.

The most recent news I've found is that Denver is willing to go forward with Kaepernick's contract as it stands, but wants the Niner's to pick up $4.9 million of his pay for the upcoming season. We see this sort of deal in baseball all the time. But the NFL is much more restrictive due to the mandatory minimum team payroll and hard salary cap.
