I don't think it will be a problem going over 54 points
Does everyone see how ridiculous it is that Boise St is ranked 5th in the nation? If they can only get past the dreaded Idaho Vandals...
I think the voters have been giving respect, but as many have predicted we will probably get jumped by a few teams in the polls. We're getting the wins, just not style point wins like a lot of people are looking for and should expect from a top 5 team. There's only 2 senior starters on the team, so we'll only get better.
Boise has gone 104-17 since 2000. I'd say some of the voting respect comes from the consistent winning, and now it seems we are at least in the national awareness and that helps ranking as well.
We've been dominating the WAC and the only way we're going to get respect is moving conferences and beating some good OOC teams. We can't control how bad the WAC is.
We'll see how the year plays out. Boise has showed flashes of greatness, but has lacked execution on offense and the defense has been inconsistent as well. Lots to work on still.
I can sympathize with the albatross of the WAC hanging around Boise St's neck. It's a similar argument made in college basketball my a Memphis or a Gonzaga; however unlike basketball where a lengthy OOC schedule and post-season tournaments help to alleviate those conference woes, college football doesn't have those luxuries.
Boise St is going to finish the season with games against Oregon and Idaho that will have any meaningful weight this season. That makes it virtually unknowable the level of talent they have on the field to place them in a proper ranking and/or bowl game.
The "program history" argument is the same one you hear from Nebraska, Miami, Michigan, etc.. fans on occasion and should hold no weight on the current season.
