SmackDown's move to FOX and the start of Raw's “new season” on USA Network was supposed to be a major breakthrough for WWE, one that grew its audience and resulted in a better product. Viewership for both Raw–fresh off its smallest non-holiday audience ever–and SmackDown has been extremely disappointing, and the blue brand's FOX audience has already shrunk enough that it should have FOX and WWE officials worried. Maybe that wouldn't be as concerning if WWE's third brand, NXT, wasn't struggling as well, but the yellow brand–widely considered to be WWE's best show in terms of creating compelling content–hasn't exactly fared well on USA Network, either. As WWE has been plagued by morale problems in 2019, the same is true of its fans, who are hoping for better programming from a company that has all the tools it needs at its disposal but cannot consistently put on entertaining angles or feuds for Raw or SmackDown.
