Could we have a contest and guess the number of wrong guesses made by Mitch? Or have everyone else list their '53' and entries have to be in by a week after OTA's. And naturally Mitch could edit his entry.

How can he possibly play anymore? He hasn't put on a helmet since 2014. Doesn't know this DC or defense, doesn't even know anyone on the defense except Peterson. Maybe he met Rucker. Nothing better than a story of reclamation and resurgence, but he would have to be mentally exceptional, and that has never been his suit.

He's played football his entire life, it's second nature to those guys. And he plays inside LB, not going to be that hard for him to pick up a 'new' defense that isn't much different than what he played previously. End of the day it's see ball, tackle ball and he had great instincts. He will have to knock off some rust but that doesn't disappear.

Same with his athleticism, especially if he's been working out 6x a week the past year as he claimed. He was a freak and even if you're getting 80% of what he used to be that's still a damn good linebacker. So hopefully BASK get a good gauge on where he's at because I think the guy can still play at a high level if given the chance.

Either Baker or Mathieu will be the nickel CB and the other most likely will play FS. So you have Peterson and 9 other guys fighting for the #2 CB position. Situation could be worse and my gut tells me we will add a vet CB at some point to compete as well.

I disagree, its not that simple. Say PP gets hurt. Those 9 nobodies are going to fill both our starter roles? This isnt rhetorical. Remember the start of 2016 when BWilliams was the #2 CB? We quickly went and signed somebody off the street (Cooper). Which is to say nobody in the CB room was competent enough to play #2.

The only faint ray of light I see right now in the CB room is Bouka.

I've been saying it since last year, let Harlan be the CB2.

He'll actually do a solid job unlike Brandon Williams & Bethel. Also, from the film I've watched so far, I like Sojourn Shelton more than Williams & Bethel, too.

I do agree that this is probably our biggest area of need, but the situation last year was very different as well. Mathieu was hurt or hobbled almost the entire year, Williams and Miller were both rookies, and Jefferson and Swearinger are both liabilities in coverage. Another year under the youngsters belts, a healthy Badger, and a FS with some range ( Baker or Mathieu) should improve the situation. I haven't really heard much about the plans for Harlan Miller this year, but he played pretty good at FS the last few games. If he is still a CB I think there's some potential there as well.

Jefferson was far from being a liability in coverage. He was actually pretty damn great at it.

I disagree, he's a box safety and nothing more. He was a liability in coverage. Don't have the stats to back it up, and only an opinion. I loved his effort but glad we didn't resign him for anywhere close to the ridiculous contract Baltimore gave him.

A lot of our defense this season will rest on the rise (or not) of Robert Nkemdiche. If we get to open that box as well as add all our other talent this offseason, it could be really good. Would certainly make the loss of Campbell much less bitter.

In regards to Jefferson, I like him as a player. My only point was that last year we pretty much had 2 SS (Jefferson and DJ) and no FS. While Jefferson might be decent in coverage for a SS he is a liability in coverage as a FS.

He was the primary reason why TEs stopped looking like Gronk everytime they played us.

Yes, he was a box Safety, but a box Safety that was pretty damn good at covering TEs. I doubt you actually watched him up close if he was a liability in coverage.

From rewatching most of the games, a majority of that link above us was because of Jefferson.

We traded for Cooper, and there is really no answer for the loss of PP21.

The Harlan from last year's preseason was hardly solid.

I suggest we find an answer.

You cant have a billion dollar business hinge on 1 guys health. He gets hurt and we just shrug and say "welp, there goes the season?"

Well, try to answer your own question?

Who?

In short "almost any vet on the street would be better than what we have"

Brandon Flowers
Sam Shields
Alteraun Verner
Marcus Williams

no, not great options. But better than what we got.

But, hardly gives one confidence if PP21 goes down, which was your earlier point.

more than what we got

If PP goes down and its Bethel+BWill, its over.

At least one of those vets gives us a fighting chance.

Like I said earlier, im holding out hope for Bouka.
