Official 79th Oscars Poster Revealed
Source: A.M.P.A.S.

"Stella!" "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!" "Snap out of it!" "You had me at hello." Dozens of the most memorable and quotable lines from motion pictures will share the 79th Academy Awards® poster canvas with Oscar (see picture below).

The commemorative poster features words and phrases that have become part of society's colloquial speech. "They are the unforgettable lines that you hear in everyday conversations, in meetings, at parties, or walking down the street," said Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. "They tap into what we think and give us great shorthand ways to express how we feel about those things. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then each quote is worth at least 500."

All of the lines (see full list below poster) showcased in the poster except one are from films that have received an Academy Award® nomination for Best Picture, Writing, or both, between 1936 and 2005. (Finding the exception should be the first of many trivia contests that the Academy expects the poster to generate.)

The concept and design for the poster was created for the Academy by TBWAChiatDay Los Angeles. Photographer Albert Watson captured the Oscar statuette featured on the poster.

The 27x40 poster, printed on premium recycled paper, uses a black canvas and highlights the quotes in gold metallic ink, each in a distinctive typeface to reflect the movie it represents.

Nominations for the 79th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at 5:30 a.m. PST in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2006 will be presented on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network at 5 p.m. PST, beginning with a half-hour arrivals segment.

This should solve the debate of whether Leonardo was better in The Departed or Blood Diamond. :D

Think they will give The Departed best film, so that when they again don't have Martin win an Oscar for Director it won't be so bad?

I think Leo wins for Blood Diamond; not nominated for both roles helps his chances of winning, IMO.

There is no way in hell that Forrest Whitaker WON'T win Best Actor. That and Helen Mirren are perhaps the two most sure-things the Oscars have ever had.

Anyone see Half Nelson? Ive been looking forward to it for months, but new dads dont get passes to the movies.... If he wins by some chance, it'll be months before they release it on DVD, as it will get wider release Im sure... Chaplin, does just the nomination justify wider release? Is that the norm?

:( The only movies out of everything nominated that I have seen are Click, Cars, Happy Feet and Poseidon. :(

I really need to get out more.

This is my lamest year ever, I think.

We should do a "ASFN Watch the Best Pictures Nominees" event. We could go all meet up for drinks and then watch a movie, since they will all be in the theaters.

Absolutely! It won't be a 3,000 theater wide release, but you'll most likely be able to see it playing at smaller theaters across the country, especially independent theaters like Laemmle.

Those shadow puppets were stupid. And so was having Celine Dion sing. And so was having that boring Randy Newman song sung by boring James Taylor.

I can't believe I had to miss Rome for that boringness.

That song that was sung by Celine was completely unmemorable. All the winners were predictable except for maybe Jennifer Hudson.

Degeneras was serviceable, but played it pretty safe.

Like you said, "boring" pretty much sums it up.

Thankfully, Rome is back this week.
