8 games have playoff implications today:

Boston @ Baltimore (Boston needs a win/TB loss for WC win or tie)
NYY @ Tampa Bay (see above)
Cleveland @ Detroit (Detroit win & Texas Loss gives Detroit #2 seed and hosts WC winner).
Texas @ LA Angels (Texas win or Detroit Loss gives Texas #2 seed)

Philly @ Atlanta (ATL tied for WC)
St. Louis @ Houston (STL tied for WC)
Pittsburgh @ Milwaukee (Mil win or AZ loss gives Mil #2 seed)
LA Dodgers @ Arizona (AZ win & Milwaukee loss gives AZ #2 seed)

St. Louis goes up 5-0 after 1.

I don't want them in the playoffs - very dangerous right now.

Honestly, I think I'd rather play Philly in a five game series when they're slumping a bit than risk facing them in a seven game series. Kennedy sort of neutralizes their pitching advantage for two games, meaning Hudson or Saunders has to have the game of their lives only once or twice instead of three times should the Diamondbacks have to play them in the NLCS.

Cardinals won 8-0. Braves lost 4-3 in 13 innings. Cardinals win the wildcard. That was a tough one to watch for me. Grew up a Braves fan and still want them to do well.

Boston is up 3-2 in the 9th and the Rays have come back from 7-0 down and are tied 7-7 in the 11th.

Evan Longoria's homer puts the Rays in the playoffs and sends the Red Sox home.

What are the odds this night was a Bud Selig conspiracy to make baseball relevant? ;)

Remember 2 weeks ago when we all thought this September was so sucky? All the races seemed to be settled.

Last night was the single greatest night in MLB history. All the different implications, all the different timezones and stadiums impacted... Wow.

We had two monumental collapses completed. We had a 7-0 deficit overcome. We had a rain delay so that the Red Sox could watch the Rays comeback firsthand. We had extra innings in games where teams were fighting for their lives.

I doubt we will ever see anything like it again.

The baseball gods are smiling today.
