Just so I get it on record. I'm doing a little overview on the Cards, but I wanted to mention something now about the QB situation, since it no longer works in the article. Had my guy not returned to school, here was what I was going to say about the QB slot.

Warner has a solid year. I believe you re-sign him to a 2 year contract if he will do the deal for a reasonable number. I would also consider guaranteeing him a position with the franchise after retirement. You’ll see where I’m going in a moment. Leinart is a tougher fix. I still think he can be a decent NFL QB. Remember Matt Cassel. Leinart is better. Considering all the water under the bridge and the fans' impatience, I suspect he will achieve success at a different location. Besides he will be a free agent before he likely starts. The Cards would be lucky to get a third round pick for him, but I’d take it or try to use him to move up in round 1.

Finally I’d draft Tebow. I sat on this board a few years back and told you Eli Manning was the safest QB to come out in years. The Cards couldn’t get him, but here’s the next sure thing to come out. He needs to work on some basics, especially reading defenses and footwork. However, he’s durable, mobile, has an above average arm and is the best leader for his age I have seen. I never use those comparisons to current player references, but this guy is Warner reborn. You couldn’t write a better scenario. I fully realize other evaluators will focus on his weak fundamentals. That’s the only reason he will be on the board when the Cards select. Tebow can sit a year or two and Warner can play. There will be no conflict. Tebow will learn from the perfect mentor. It’s also true that QB is not the Cards greatest need, but with Tebow, you cannot pass on taking him. This guy defines a franchise QB.

This is kind of a mute point and he could well be the first QB taken next year. Forget the guys who rank only on arm strength and technique. Tebow is the whole package and will do what it takes to suceed.

Not to rain on your parade, but Tebow isn't coming out this year. He said it the other day. I'd rather have Leinart than Tebow anyways.

Harry does say, "had my guy not returned to school" in the first paragraph.

I really don't see how a guy who, as you comment, needs to work on basics like footwork and reading defenses, can be regarded as a sure thing.

I'm not knocking Tebow as a prospect... I think he's got a shot to be fantastic. Despite the mechanics issues, he's been very accurate, and his physical gifts and desire to win aren't in question. But I don't think he's a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination.

1. Never rely on a disclaimer in your post people never read em.

2. More people want to give up on Matt than I can shake a stick at, I don't want to.

Couldn't disagree more. Tebow and Warner are nothing like each other save the fact that they are both good people. One is an immobile pocket passer, with an above average arm, and great accuracy. The other is a run first, below average arm and not so great accuracy. I would puke if the Cards thought they could replace Leinart with Tebow. That's maybe something they would have tried before Whiz showed up....

some scouts project Tebow at LB or Fullback...Kiper had him rated as a late 3rd to 4th rounder.

Leinart is much more of a sure thing.

I've heard a few "experts" lately attempt to draw a comparison between Tebow and Steve Young. And that his decision to return for his senior season is strictly to develop his passing skills...
I know Steve Young and Mr. Tebow, YOU ARE NO STEVE YOUNG!

Me neither. He's moved the team when he's come in and is a capable QB -IMHO. People forget how above average he was his first two years(for a rookie QB). He needed this jolt this year to really kick his butt and reevaluate his priorities to make progress.

Perfect Scenario:

1) We win the Superbowl
2) Warner retires, a perfect end to a HOF career
3) Leinart plays at an all-pro level next year for us.

We never miss a beat, and we're competitive for years to come. That's my fantasy, anyway.

Tebow will not be a successful NFL QB. Mark it down. He just won't. OUTSTANDING college QB, but not NFL. No way. Never. He doesn't have the legs of a McNabb or the arm. Not gonna happen.
