Free agency has died down enough for me to make my first mock of the year. I get confused on do we have 2 6th's or 2 7th's or both...so I just gave us 2 6th round picks (same guys probably there anyway).

Signing Holliday wouldn't affect this wish list because DL is still a need area. Who will be available is really important so I checked other sources of major lists on who will go in what round.

Not only is availability important but the fact that I've seen most of these guys play....coupled with their combine and individual workout stuff and you've got my list.

If Suggs is there you can't turn him down and I would even go with Leftwich....but Suggs is history and McCown looks like the heir apparent. Newman looks good at CB but this is a deep CB draft and NFL starters can be found later on.....so enough rambling....list and comments:

(1) DeWayne Robertson-DL-6'2"-315-Kentucky

I hope he doesn't have the tude of Warren Sapp....but he's called "Baby Sapp" for ability...and I'll take that kind of ability.....4.75/4.8 speed for the forty.....double-teamed most of the year....someone said 70% of the time....and still put up good numbers.....having 2 lineman with Robertsons and Bryants physical abilities will open the pass rush up and clog up the middle....I like Kennedy too but Robertson is quicker.

(2) Brandon Lloyd-WR-6'1"-185-Illinois

His name was on a list of guys falling a little bit in the draft....probably because he ran a 4.65 not a 4.5 or 4.6.....but I've watched him a bunch and he gets behind people.....he can contribute NOW and we need that....he's small yes but have you seen him jump.....good blocker and good hands.

(3) Calvin Pace-DE-6'5"-270-Wake Forest

One game I watched (bowl gmae) showed Pace sacking the QB as he limped on an injured leg (minor injury healed now)....also double teamed a bunch and has a 4.67 time....we MUST have a pass rush this year.

(4) Ricky Manning-CB-5'9"-185-UCLA

Probably slides because of his height....but this guy shuts down WR's.....4.5 speed and plays with that fierce attitude.....also a student of the game which is an important asset for DB's.

(5) Bobby Wade-WR-5'11"-195-Arizona

Am I playing Bidwill like he did Smith for seats in the stadium here?.....well....I've heard good things about this guy....seen him only once or twice....but some of you guys said he was a 5th rounder and we need WR's...not real fast at 4.6....but we have a burner in Gilmore and McAddley's not slow.

(6) Bruce Nelson-OL-6'5"-300-Iowa

I backed off the center position because of some real nice OL pick-up's in FA...but we still could use some competition here....I like Faine of Notre Dame...but he's probably gone by rd. 2.....Some say Nelson could play left tackle....great feet....not real fast at 5.2 but so what....has quickness and balance and has played every game since starting in his redshirt freshman season.

(6) or (7) Seneca Wallace-QB?-5"11-200-Iowa State

I know....I know...eyebrow raiser....but I can't keep Randle el out of my mind...and this guy is Randle Elish (is that a word)....4.5 speed and can play multiple positions.....even his arm is decent....but the draft is for his Randle El qualities...not his arm.

(7) Willie Pile-Safety-6'3"-205-Virginia Tech

Most say he'll be available here because he's a tad stiff....but I'd take a flyer on him...from a good program....leaps well.....4.5 speed....can play either safety position.

Have a great week-end everyone.

Mock Draft

Buckeye, nice Draft. However, with his poor workout Suggs might be available at #6. No matter who we take at #1 (It has to be DL or CB) I see us taking a WR in the 2nd Rd. That might change if we go CB in Rd 1 and then we'd go DE in Rd 2. And if we get Suggs I believe we'll take a CB in the 3rd Rd. And with all our needs I can't forsee the team taking any OL. But all in all I'd be happy with your picks.

I hope you're right GS.....Suggs upgrades our DL in a hurry and if we don't sign Holliday that even becomes more of a critical area. If we sign a veteran wide receiver then with the draft we can sign someone that we can develop at that position....there's a bunch of WR's I like....but again if we get Suggs everything after that is gravy.

Have a great week-end everyone.

Good Mock!

1. I like the Robertson pick, and he was my first pick in my mock draft a few days ago. D-Rob and Bryant would form a nice athletic duo in the middle of our line, with Bryant being the quicker guy and D-Rob being the stronger one.

2. I don't like the Lloyd pick, I think there will be at least 2 receivers here that are much better than him. I watched him at Illinois too, and he was impressive, but he lacks one dominating quality (great size or great speed). I had us taking either Talico (a reach) or Bryant Johnson (who is a bigger faster Frank Sanders).

3. Pace could be a steal here (GO DEACONS!). He is a little known (to most draft enthusiasts) player that is extremely disruptive, with better size and speed (at least from Suggs' workout) than Suggs. I chose him here at our third pick too, but I believe he will really go at the end of round 2.

4. Ricky Manning is a reach here, and there will be better, bigger, faster corners at this point in the draft. He would be a nice pick starting around round six. He is just too small, and lacks speed to make up for it.

5. Bobby Wade is a football player, plain and simple. Not fast, not big, but he has tremendous football instincts. I went to the same high school as him (Desert Vista high school here in Phx.). His senior year he won 5A offensive AND defensive player of the year. He scored 45 tds combined, (offense, defense, and special teams) ,13 interceptions, 1300 rush yards, 1000 or so receiving yards, was our main punt and kick returner, and the state's best cornerback. He would be a very good pick here (same with ASU's Shaun McDonald with his 4.3 speed).

6. There is no way Bruce Nelson will be available here, he might go as high as the third, but probably around the fourth.

6. I liked Seneca at Iowa State, but I don't really think he can become a good NFL regular at any position.

7. I don't know anything about Pile....sounds like a 7th rounder! :D

A few reaches, but hey it happens every year with the real draft, so it can be expected. I had one major reach (Talico in the second) so I'm guilty of it myself! :D

Yeah I hear you on Lloyd.

I would not be upset with someone else.....it just seems that we need someone who'll develop into a #1 receiver someday....Lloyd had great stats for the Illini....but that's college and every wide receiver (except Rogers who'll be gone) seems to have some question marks......including the Miami receiver Andre Johnson.

Bruce Nelson has run some 5.4's so some pubs have him sliding down.....like you I think he may be gone.....I don't think he's worth a 3......but maybe a 4 or 5.

Seneca's problems may be more with his head than his ability.....he's a much better athlete than say a Steve Bellisari (OSU QB) drafted in about round 6 last year......but I've read where he sez QB and nothing but QB will he play.....can you say Canada.

Brad Banks and Seneca Wallace could create a pretty cool CFL rivalry that dates back to the Iowa-Iowa State days!

I don't know why everyone in so down on our corners. I thought Barrett did a good job and is still learning. Starks was a little dissappointing but if we get Suggs and get a pass rush I think we will do well in the secondary next year.

I do like the Robertson pick if Suggs is not there. Him and Bryant together would make an awesome force. From being in the dumps and ready not to renew my tickets I have had since day one I am all pumped up now.

I agree Rowland, but I feel that we should add another corner to at least play the "nickel". I was hoping that we would sign a guy like Kevin Mathis to either start, or backup Barrett and Starks. Barrett and Starks aren't an allstar coverage tandem, but they are more than adequate.

Wade would be a good late round pickup.. He is not that fast, but boy is he quick. He could fillin a kr or Pr slot. Also could work his way in as a 4th wr. I was about to say he could also play some special teams (kick or punt) and maybe even defense.

I've always thought that Wade might be best as a CB. UofLame(had to take a shot! :D) toyed with the idea of playing him at corner last year when Jolivette was hurt.

Well if Suggs is not there at 6 here is a mock that might not be too bad . I cannot give all the explainations due to I am going back on watch here in a couple of hours. ( Dam them protesters.
We had over 6,000 screaming at us a couple of days ago.) I need to get some quality down time.

1. Dewayne Robertson DT, Kent

2. Bryant Johnson WR, Penn ST.

3. Tyler Brayton DE, COL or Tully Banta-Cain DE, Calf.
Either or they both might be nice suprises!

4. DeJaun Groce CB, Neb

5. Brett Romberg C, Miami

6. Charles Tillman CB, Louisiama-Lafayette

6A. Ryan Hoag, WR/KR Gustavus Apolphus

7. Casy Urlacher LB, Lake Forest College

Now tear it up guys I am good for it.

Great picks!

If we could get Brayton in the 3rd, it would be an absolute steal!

I'm afraid that he wouldn't be there, since he ran a 4.6! :D
