I just heard a caller on the radio news said this was his first season springing for season tickets. He really bought into the hype about building a team around Amare Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, and Stephon Marbury. He was pretty upset that he had bought tickets believing that, and now it has all been thrown to the wayside.

I absolutely love the NBA and basketball in general. I'm actually more excited about watching this team now because I like watching the young players, their potential, and development. I like Marbury, but I was becoming more and more wary of his style of play. I'm sure everyone of us at one time or another thought to him or herself and at some point Shawn Marion and more so Amare Stoudemire were going to start getting pissy about the black hole at point guard.

That said, I know that most people want to see a team that is competitive and winning basketball games. If I was one of those people and just forked over $5,000 for season tickets I would be pretty upset right now as well.

That is exactly why I dont mind trading Marbury. There were some bad things in his game that people dont see because he does have so many great things.

I LOVE the way Steve Nash plays. Now I hear this Vujanic is ALOT like Nash only bigger more athletic and a better defender? It is hard for me to believe, but I much rather that style of play at PG than Marburys.

Well, for the past 2 years, Steph has been my favorite player on the team. This sucks because there really is no player left that can claim that for me. Maybe Shawn, but I have the same issues with him that everybody has.

All of a sudden, Joe Johnson becomes the #2 option on this team. This is a role he has never been in before, and I am very nervous about how he handles it. He wasn't even starter-quality for the past couple weeks!

This is a disaster. I'm sick of waiting. We've been waiting since 1993 for our competitive team to reach the next level--now we've taken a huge step backwards.

The pro-trade people will undoubtedly say "we'll be awesome in 2-3 years", but who's to say in 2-3 years, we'll STILL be saying "we'll be awesome in 2-3 years"???

We have been saying "just wait 2-3 more years" before this trade...

Marbury would be in his tents year in three years.

But he wouldn't even be as old as Penny is now.

I agree. Marbury was my fav player too, but I don't think we would have been contenders for at least another 2-3 years anyway (the time it would take for Amare to develop into something special)

Hold on one minute. So, are you guys trying to say that trading your best and third-best players for virtually nothing isn't good?

Since when is Penny our 3rd best player?

Our most valueable and most important player has been Amare.

Than Marbury and Marion.

Penny isn't even ahead of Johnson and Zarko and of course not McDyess.

With Amare out, there is no question Penny was our 3rd best player. He has been MUCH better than Joe Johnson over the past 3 weeks or so.

It will be a big change not having to debate whether Penny should play or not.:D

Yeah I like Shawn Marion and Amare is decent, but no way is Shawn Marion still the Matrix player that drew me to the suns.

I really dislike JJ and would've liked to see him go....

The only plus will be possibly seeing more Barbosa, However, I he isn't ready yet and as far as I understand, Marbury was helping him come along.

We definitley lost out in this trade....

Unfortunately, we're going to have to just suck up the fact that Joe Johnson will play a lot of minutes. It's not like there really is anyone that can replace him now.

2 first round draft picks are not NOTHING. Either is adding cap flexability that might give us a shot at Kobe.

Two good euro prospects like Vujanic and Lampe are potentialy good players.

I wasn't around here when the Suns traded Nance for KJ and some other players. Who was involved and what did people think at the time?

we traded nance and mike sanders for kj, ty corbin, mark west, and a draft pick that became, if i'm not mistaken, dan majerle.

at the time it was somewhat baffling, but i also didn't follow hoops that closely. didn't know who kj was really. actually, didn't know any of the players involved. turned out pretty well though, didn't it?

For the most part I agree with you Chap, but we did dump twwo huge contracts, we got an expiring one, and another one we can buy out. We also got two picks, and we'll ahve around $10M to work with next offseason. I wish Marion was traded instead of Marbury, but there are positives to look at.

What hurts me is that the whole, "Marbury/ Marion/ Stoudemire" was a big fat lie.:(

I really don't think a team having an absolutely no-impact player like Marion earning the max salary can win anything ever, unless the team can operate without any financial concerns like NY or Dallas. Look at the championship teams in the past, Lakers, SA, Houston, Chicago.

I think without the pressure of winning, Amare can concentrate on working on his games better. Let's see what's gonna happen.

It wasn't a lie, I think it is obvious that this isn't what the suns came up with at the beginning of the year. That is definitely evident by the Jahadi White trade.

Anyways, like BC said, when Thomas took over, they knew he would want to do something drastic. We had the player all New Yorkers covet most. Obviously we were going to get calls.

The fact that is NY allowed us to strip mine their young talent, future picks, and expiring contracts.

I dont think that has ever happened in the NBA in one trade before.

The suns saw a situation that was pretty much a once and a lifetime deal. They gave away all but one of their bad deals (as good as steph was, he wont be worth 20 mil in 3 years), and got back 2 young prospects, 2 first round picks, cash and 123 million dollars in salary relief.

Exactly. That's what this trade is all about. The Phoenix Suns saw an opportunity that was just too good to pass up. The only trade I can even think of that was close to this was the one Denver made with Dallas a few years ago in which they were able to clear a huge amount of salary cap and bad contracts.

IM rihgt with you, Joe. While the SUNs are my favorite team, and winning is always nice, I have JUST as much fun rooting for and watching younger players grow. Well, I dont know if its a blessing or a curse, but we got that now. I'm actually kind of excited.

In Barbosa's start at PG yesterday, he had 27 points and 4 assists . . . and we lost.

I wouldn't be too quick to anoint him our starting Point Guard. It would benefit the team and Amare, Marion, Johnson, our Centers, etc., to use a Point Guard, rather than another Shooting Guard in a Point Guard's body.

Just to follow up, on todays insider, chad ford said he did some reasearch and could not find a trade that even had a 100 million dollar difference in guaranteed money.

Basically the amount we shed is unreal.

That is NOT a good analogy. We only had 8 people dressed and Shawn Marion played terribly. Barbosa had nothing to do with Shawn's poor shooting.

In fact, take away that horrid 1st quarter, and we outplayed the Bulls the rest of the way.

There are a lot of players that struggle as backup players because they are more concerned with not making mistakes than in making plays. It will be interesting to see if Barbosa flurishes with the extra minutes.

I hate this trade guys, it left us without a point guard that has any experience. Howard Eisley was a decent back up to John Stockton but hasn't been able to duplicate his productivity outside of Jerry Sloans system. Having said that, I am still a die hard Suns fan and will just have to watch and see if anything good comes in the future from this trade.
